To the others who've chosen to answer this question - PAY ATTENTION - it asks, "exactly who thinks that his song is about him?" So, the answer is James Taylor, Warren Beatty, Kris Kristofferson, and who knows who else. Allof these men think that this song is about them because they're all Carly's exes and they've all been purported to be the muse. (And, being vain, of course they'd all like to think that it is about them.) She has not said explicity and it doesn't matter to this question anyway because it only matters who it is that thinks it is about them.

Do you mean 'You're so vain' by Carly Simon?....

There has been much debate over who exactly the song is about. Popular guesses on the subject include Mick Jagger (who sang backing vocals on the song), Cat Stevens, Warren Beatty, Kris Kristofferson (with whom she had had brief relationships), unfaithful fiancé William Donaldson, and Simon's ex-husband, James Taylor.

Which song are you talking about?

You're So Vain by Carly Simon is all I can think of. There was some contest where she would tell whoever won who the song was actually about, but they could never divulge the secret. I've always heard people speculate that she wrote it about James Taylor.

You're So Vain - Carly Simon

You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror as you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and...

You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't You?

You had me several years ago when I was still quite naive
Well you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave
But you gave away the things you loved and one of them was me
I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and...

You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't You? Don't You?

I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and...

You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't You?

Well I hear you went up to Saratoga and your horse naturally won
Then you flew your lear jet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun
Well you're where you should be all the time
And when you're not you're with
Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend
Wife from a close friend, and...

You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't You? Don't you?

From the research I have done Carly says the song is a little bit about Warren Beaty but she will never reveal the true Identity

Allegedly it is meant to be about Warren Beatty, but I dont think Carly Simon has ever said publicly who she wrote the song about. But really it could be about most women's ex boyfriends! and it should be listened to after every break up!!

One of Carly Simons' exs
Warren Beatty or.. mcClaine... hmmm no.. who was it who sang American Pie? Don Mclaine was it?Anyway, One or other of them, I believe... the jury has been out on that one really for a long time, and ms Simon has never said. Although people are adamant at 'their' choice being definitie... there is actually no definite answer

It's definitely about him. Really, she's talking right to him in the chorus saying "You're so vain, you probably think this song it about you"......maybe the verses were not meant to be about him, but the chorus is, so the song is.
