Ther`s more empathy for animals then fellow humans , we have the SPCA going out looking for stray pets and bringing them to shelters, yet we see homeless people on the streets we don`t pick them up or bring them to a shelter .
we as people find a pet by the side of the road and bring it home feed it and comfort it but when we see a homeless person on the side of the street we look the other way.

To Stay fan 1 , I did not call you heartless you called yourself that, how you take what is written is your own choice,I don`t take shots at any individuals.
I personally don`t bring anyone home I have in the past but I work in a home for people that used to live on the streets and when my building is full I call the shelters and try and place people in them if they choose to want to go to one.
Some actually prefer living out on the streets .

To Ken S:
"we as people find a pet by the side of the road and bring it home feed it and comfort it but when we see a homeless person on the side of the street we look the other way."

Well, when Elizabeth Smart's father gave a home repair job to Brian David Mitchell, he came back and kidnapped and raped his young daughter repeatedly for months.
That's a risk I'm not willing to put my daughter at, no matter how much you call me heartless for ignoring the homeless.

Your perception of the homeless is not very realistic. Some are homeless by choice, some because they suffer mental illness, but have been kicked out of their hospital beds by the government, which finds it less expensive to support them on the streets, some simply have no money and find themselves on the streets. And, yes, some are substance abusers. If you want to solve their problems by supporting them, go for it, but use your money, not mine. The govenment is not the answer. Give a homeless person a bed and food, and they will gladly take advantage of you. The only solution is to create real, meaningful jobs, and offer them to those who want to work. If someone does not want to work, that is their problem, not mine, and I have no sympathy for them. When they get tired of the hunger and the cold, they will get a job and solve their own problem. Give up your liberal attitude, least someone moves into your home and destroys your life.

sgreg -- You can go to a soup kitchen or food bank anytime you'd like if you live in the US of A. Call United Way (listed in the front of your phone book) and you can be given a list of referrals. Unfortunately, sometimes funding and supplies run low. Just try to get in line first. By the way, you may have to stand in line for hours in all types of inclimate weather or with people who are sick, so I hope your in good health and your immune system is in check. Obviously you don't work with the needy, poor or homeless or you'd know that fact.

I think we shouldnt spend tax payer money on feeding the homeless. It incentivises people to not make good life choices. If the private sector wants to pick up the bill, or if you see someone who is hungry and buy thema a sandwitch that that is a great deed but tax payer money should not go to these people.

Its sad, but so is the fact that as a tax payer, if im hungry I cant go to a soup kitchen and get a free sandwich.

Good question. I am married to a Viet Nam vet, so I know how messed up they are from that war. Apparently nobody in government gives a damb. Makes me wonder just what is our country coming to. You have billionaires wasting millions for a trip to space, when by rights they should give back to the community and help people who need it. Makes me want to slap their mommas for raising a kid like that!

I worry about the day when the very poor, sick, homeless, etc. realize that they will be rewarded a warm bed and three square for killing someone.
