Because they are beautiful animals. They are also very powerful. and you can ride them and "befriend" them. A lot of men like horses as well, you know! Probably for the same reasons.

GEAR?! I have never before heard the term "gear" in reference. That cracked me up.
The answer is probably because they appear beautiful or powerful to women, or, as Rio said, because they are fun to ride. (Horses personally make me a little uneasy; I never learned how to ride one, and have never really seen that many- but I'm not a woman.)
I HEAVILY doubt that the answer is the "gear," although I'm certain there are some women that are into that.

I often wonder this my self..could it be that a horse is well you know hung and when riding one you get massive variations..

I don't know about admiration, but they are fun to ride (IN A NON-SEXUAL MANNER).
