Hello Ladies and gentlemen, I have a question that is easy to answer, but the way my circumstances are it is hard to even beleive, I want to become an actress, and that is what I dream of almost everynight, My ambition is so strong, but getting one foot throught the door is so far away, it seems like every time I come so close to that door of oppurtunity stretches another 8 miles, I know and beleive in my heart that Once i am seen by a REAL casting director, just ONCE that I would blow up. I meet these fakes, and phonies, who aren't the real deal, and i go on the internet and I have to pay a arm& leg just to get info about auditions, plus I live in a small town, I'll never get noticed were I live. I just want to go to a REAL audition, with REAL agents, and get the REAL contract. Please give me some advice on how to get even exposure. Thank you.

The acting industry is located in Los Angeles and New York City. If you want real auditions and real Casting Directors you must move to New York City or LA. Moving to L.A. or New York, does not guarantee you will become an actor. There are fakes in New York City and L.A.

If you have never studied acting, call the Community College, in the nearest city to where you live and ask for recommendations on acting classes/schools.

NYC and L A are difficult, demanding, expensive cities. The cities can be overwhelming for someone from a small town. If you have a like-minded friend that wants to move to L.A. or NYC, perhaps the two of you can relocate together.

A real agent does not mean that he or she will accept you as a client. It may take many years before you book one job.

If you live near a large city, call the community theaters and ask if they teach acting classes. Agents want to see that you have worked as a performer. Find a theater in your area and ask if they have open auditions.

ONLY take acting classes at a Community College, University or acting coach referred by the Drama Department of a University in your city.

Look for a reputable local talent/modeling agency like this one:

Get training and exposure through the right people. Keep making connections, because it IS "who you know" that gets you in the door (what you know keeps you there). Get a lead in a community theater production - prove you've got what it takes on a small scale first.

Watch for local casting calls - many local or small film-makers will internet post or put in local news ads looking for talent. Start small, prove yourself, then after you have built a resume, go big. Post a myspace page with some clips of your best stuff and make the page professional-looking so you can send people there as part of a portfolio.

The biggest thing is to be ready for rejection. The average amount of "no's" before you get a casting call-back is somewhere above 50. That's 5-0 times people will say no before one person says, "let's see."

What i suggest is simple, but wuite extreme. Where you live, you aren't going to make it. Simple. Ok, so what next. Well, you have to move. Where? New York or San Fransisco or a big city. I would even suggest London or if you really believe you have what it takes you could prepare an act for the Edinburgh Festival. Research it. A god review at the Edinburgh Festival opens lots of doors to you. Believe me, in the cities there are loads of opportunities. Research t.v. channels and production companies. There are many summer drama schools available. I know of SYT (Scottish Youth Theatre). It is amazing. JUst never stop researching, and, i wouldn't pay anyone a penny. If you are really passionate about what you want to do, then there is no need to pay someone else to get positions for you. You can get there yourself!
