I am 19 years old, female. I have had my period since i was 12 and it was normal. Recently (the past 4-5 months or so) It has been irregular, and now I haven't had it for about 2, going on 3 months. I have lost weight recently and been exercising. I have also been under a lot of stress. I know all this will affect my period, but all I want to know is how to get my period back. Please help!

i have gone to the gyno and she did not seem too worried about it. She said if it goes beyond 6 months then i need to worry and that I can then go on the pill. I do not exercise excessivly, 50 mins 5 days a week of cardio and some strength training.

Athletes lose their period due to lack of body fat.
You need to have a certain amount of body fat to produce your period. You should also make an apt. with your doc. & get a check-up & make sure nothing else is going on with your body.

My period stopped due to fast weight loss and stress. I started eating more normally (which was hard since I was trying to fit into my wedding dress!) but I knew it was more important to be healthy. Within a week, my period started.

Here are some tips from a website:

Keep a calendar of when your periods occur and how long they last. This information can help your doctor make a correct diagnosis. Take it to your appointment.
Eat healthy foods and keep your weight steady. If you are overweight, a balanced diet and regular exercise will help you lose weight slowly (no more than 2 pounds a week). If you are underweight, eat more.
If you follow a strenuous exercise program, consider cutting back until your periods come back.
If you have sex, always use birth control. Talk to your doctor about the available methods.
If you think you might be pregnant, get a pregnancy test whenever your period is 5 or more days late. Don't wait. Confidential testing and counseling are available in most doctors' offices and clinics. Take your first morning urine specimen with you for the test. Keep it refrigerated until you take it in.
Consider counseling if you are stressed out.

The only way your period would stop is if you are anorexic or have a problem you need to go to a gyno for. If you are not eating and you are exercising continuously, you need to seek help. Stress can play a role in delaying you period, but not for months. Unless you are pregnant.

The best answer is to see a Doctor, but if it stops because you lost weight, stress etc... then once it is sorted out it will come back. I stopped mine for a few monthes because of stress. Don't worry it will come back.

I do reccommend seeing a doctor though. Incase it is caused by dietry problems, or being underweight.

Well, it should come back on its own eventually. One more month and you should probably see a doctor about it. I know not having it is called amennorrhea (sp?). You can look that up to find out more about it. You may have to go on the pill to get back to regular again. But please, see a doctor if this goes on too long.

I think you've already answered your own question!! If your exercising is excessive, slow down a bit; and find out how to conquer the stress levels. I hope you're okay!

You may want to talk to your doctor about this. They know you better than we do.
Try switching to yoga for exercise. It helps relieve some of the stress and doesn't overwork your body.

your period is just "frightened"
your hormones are changing & your period is just going right along with it
the best thing to do is wait it out & exercise regularly, but don't overdo it
