The Da Vinci Code is not to be ignored as a fictional plot. Its premise, that Jesus Christ has been reinvented for political purposes, attacks the very foundation of Christianity. Its author, Dan Brown, has stated on national TV that, even though the plot is fictional, he believes its account of Jesus' identity is true. So what is the truth? Let's take a look.
Did Jesus have a secret marriage with Mary Magdalene?
Was Jesus' divinity invented by Constantine and the church?
Were the original records of Jesus destroyed?
Do recently discovered manuscripts tell the truth about Jesus?
Has a gigantic conspiracy resulted in the reinvention of Jesus? According to the book and movie, The Da Vinci Code, that is exactly what happened. Several of the book's assertions regarding Jesus smack of conspiracy. For example, the book states:
Nobody is saying Christ was a fraud, or denying that He walked the earth and inspired millions to better lives. All we are saying is that Constantine took advantage of Christ's substantial influence and importance. And in doing so, he shaped the face of Christianity as we know it today.1
Could this shocking assertion from Dan Brown's best-selling book be true? Or is the premise behind it just the stuff of a good conspiracy novel--on a par with a belief that aliens crash-landed at Roswell, New Mexico, or that there was a second gunman on the grassy knoll in Dallas when JFK was assassinated?

cheeky answer, but of course the "movie" is real ... you didn't imagine it. a studio invested a lot of money in it, someone adapted a screenplay from the book, and actors played parts in it. many people have seen it, so it's definitely "real".
as for whether what the movie is about is real then that's debatable, but doubtful. the movie is based on a very popular book of the same name by author Dan Brown. it is, in essence, a work of adventurous fiction pulling on a number of theories and sources for inspiration. the actual material events in the book are not real, no, it's a work of fiction.
what the book does very well, regardless of it's claims, is that it makes people stop and think about religion. which can only be a good thing, blind faith is blind ignorance - whether you come out the other side a believer or not is up to you, but one should never just accept what we're told in old books, just because they're old.
you have to ask yourself, did jesus exist? if so then did he have a relationship, and a child, with Mary Magdalene? the fact is we'll never ever know, never, it's not possible, unfortunately and so the Da Vinci Code's theories can never be proven.
entertaining book, crap film.

The specific locations of the movie are factual. The 'legends' surrounding them are full of speculation. The author (Dan Brown) of the book claims his writing is a fictional hypothesis - which means many scholars hold the belief that the existience of the secret society 'The Priory' does, indeed exist. Also, the legend of Jesus actually being married to Mary Magdeline and fathering a child has caused a lot of controversy in the catholic church. No one actually knows what happened to M.M. which is why the book and film has sparked thousands to being historical hunts for the 'truth'. I have always wondered: If the story is a complete fabrication, as the catholic church says it is, then why get so defensive about it? The author clearly states that the book is fiction.

No. It's based on a novel, which the Author has explained is all fiction. The movie seems very realistic though and makes people think it might be.
I saw a leaflet once, explaining the DeVinci Code and cleared out that everything in it is fction.

It is not real. I am saddened that it has completely changed your views! So sad! The argument was that it was only a movie and no one would take it seriously is false as you comment tells!

it's fiction, but Masons are pretty clever people and they are for real, so go on read about them, but these things in this particular movie are purely fiction. movie makers create illusions to make people think things which are not very accurate and/or unreal.

it is more of like a conspiracy theory that the film is based on - the movie is fiction with realistic under tones. purely for entertainment although some people believe aspects of it.
