Nope. You're getting tons of very bad advice. A goldfish will never do well long term in a bowl. Even a smaller fancy goldfish will get 6-7" long when it grows up. The only thing that will work for you in a bowl in a single betta. Even then, you must be very careful to do a complete water change on the bowl every 3-4 days or you will have serious problems keeping the fish alive.

Goldfish need 10 gallons of water PER FISH or the Nitrites in the water (which you cannot see) will kill them or result in a fungus black/cottony colored fish. The water may seem clear and perfect, but the chemicals are damaging.
Only BETA fish can live in a jar or a cup or a bowl. Nothing else. Even though the life of a Beta fish seems dull, that is what they have been bred for...sitting in a decorative planter or cup. Nothing more.
Best wishes on your new fish...and don't let anyone tell you goldfish are simple and easy...they are difficult, until you have the correct water, tank size, food, environment etc. Infact, Goldfish bowls have been outlawed in many countries.

Please dont keep a goldfish in a bowl. It will kill it slowly. Theyneed at least 10 gal per fish because they are a cold water fish and produce a lot of ammonia. They can not breath air from the surface of the water like bettas. By keeping it in a bowl it will slowly die of lack of oxegen and from swimming in increasingly polluted water. Even regular water changes wont help because it will stress the fish severly. Best case senario is that you will have a fish that lives for a few months and will be completely sunted in growth and life spand. A typical goldfish in the proper setting can live 10+ yrs!!!
If you have room for only a bowl, research what bettas need and get a bowl with the largest top water surface area you can find. Then do water changes every few days with dechlorinated water that is at the same tempurture as the water you had him in (normally room temp.) A betta will react to your presence and in many cases can be more personable than a goldfish. Please consiter this...

It is hard to keep goldfish clean. You will need to do a lot of water changes, so have a container available to let water sit so the chlorine can dissipate. What size glass are you talking about? You can get a good size glass bowl for them, and perhaps an undergravel or sponge filter to use in it for additional aeration.

Glass bowls don't normally have filters and you run into problems when its time to clean them ( for the fish).
So goldfish are not good for glass bowls because they are dirty. For a glass bowl try a 1 male fighting fish or two tiger barbs. They are clean, don't eat much and stay small.

Aquariums are much better for the fish.
If you MUST get a bowl - DO NOT get one of those ones where the top curves inwards - this dramatically depletes the amount of oxygen in the water.
Aquariums may be more expensive, but if you get one with a good filter you hardly ever have to clean it - took me years of spending hours a week cleaning out and stressing my fish before I figured this one out!

No please don't goldfish need at least 10 gallons a piece to thrive. Get a betta instead. Change the water every 5 days. There is no such thing as a goldfish bowl.

gold fish and betas will breath air from the surface of the water all others need oxygen in the water to breathe(bubble wand or filter) . and remember goldfish give off a lot of ammonia so the smaller the bowl the more you need to change the water--- an I would not reccomend more than one gold fish in a small bowl or cup---
