If you are going to cover your motorcycle, make sure you use a breathable cover so moisture doesn't get trapped underneath and then you end up with mildew!
There is a new website, www.corrosionconnection.com, with a whole section on motorcycles that talks about prevent rust, corrosion and mildew, maybe it will help you with your bike!

No a good idea, since the engine and other metallic componants are exposed, unlike a car having an engine hood. Use a tarp or plastic cover to protect it from excessive moisture and prevention of rust issues.

Yes, sometimes you get stuck riding in it...parked, a motorcycle cover works good, better is parking it under a carport or in a garage...keep it waxed good, and spray some silicone wiring spray on exposed wiring to repel water.
