Why don't they go to Africa first, and get the old tribal leaders who sold them into slavery to apologize first?

If they apologize, I sure will.

---Sorry, I should have said SOME black people, I know I will get in trouble for that. Most black people aren't stupid enough to demand an apology, but some are.

I don't think that all blacks want an apology. However, I think that, to say the very least, those who do are irrational and full of crap. After all, why should anyone apologize for what his ancestors did? Also, it's not as if the blacks who are alive today were ever slaves, so they're not owed any apologies in that regard, either.

Not all feel that way and many, could care less. They are Americans now and while most of the capture and selling was done by other tribes and Europeans, the South was not the only place where slaves were. They pretty much were all over what was America then. Yes, several Presidents had slaves during that time.

Little history, Look at the Emancipation Proclamation. It only frees the slaves in the South, and at that time, the South had broken away from the Union. It was several more years before slavery was stopped in the North.

Many blacks feel that reparations are just another form of welfare and most liberals want to add them to their roles so they become dependent on the system.

Ken Hamlin said it best, " if you wait for that check every month, your still a slave to the system, and are not the answer to the problem, but the problem."

Why do people keep dragging old baggage around ?? There were white people that were hung for giving slaves freedom in the South, my great-great-great grandfather was one. I have a 3" scar on the side of my head where a white lady threw a bottle because I believe that all men are created equal. I have met alot of African-Americans that had as much hatred as White folks. I just pray that one-day, I will quit getting blamed for something that I or my relatives didn't do. Imagine being a well-to-do Southern Gentleman and being hung for helping slaves, in His own front yard by cowards who wore white sheets to hide behind.!! He had already given freedom to all His 100+ slaves 2 years before !!

As a black person, I demand an apology from liberals for making us out to be dependent people who need hand-outs.

As far as an apology for slavery is concerned-- it would be a nice publicity stunt. Unfortunately, those who deserve the apology are long dead and those who should be apologizing are dead as well.

Some may have been sold into slavery by tribal custom but many where just captured and forced into hard labor .
Those profits have been used by wealthy families in Europe for centuries and have grown .
AS well as american owners who's land holdings in the south where due to 20 slaves working to clear land and fence it off . We have had many generations of others who profit from working people and not giving them a proper share .

First of all Clair, thats funny, but to answer the question, In general it is the unwilling to work, and their advocates, like J. Jackson and Sharpton, who see a way to get free money flowing. I mean you never hear sports coaches that are black or industry leaders or lawyers that are black looking for the handouts. Even black people working in retail are not looking for handouts. Its mostly those looking to freeload, already on welfare. By the way this applies to all races, but this question was asked about blacks.

I think it is time for the Civil War to be over. No one I know has or had any slaves in America. For an apology - I think they got their freedom and if anyone is to apologize, it ought to be the states where slavery was utilized to control/reduce costs for plantation owners. We need to get on with things that matter in the 21st century!

First, they know Africa would tell them where to stick it.

Second, if they can get the apology, then they will work on compensation.

man.. I'm not racist.. have plenty of friends from multiple ethnicities.. hell.. some of my nieces and nephews are half Pakistani... but it's just like the other day.. one of my buddies works for valet at a hotel.. while pushing up a fully loaded cart the guy he was helping had the audacity to say "now you know what it was like for us 400 years ago" I mean seriously.. what an asshat and how do they expect for people to treat them like equals with an attitude like that... it's infuriating! Thank goodness they aren't all that way.

Sure and since many people who descend from slavery don't know their geneaology, would you support paying for the mitochondrial gene detection so that people actually know what tribes they come from?
