Drugs will continue to entice people, whether they should or not. I don't think the solution is to stop them from being enticing because that is *impossible*. Instead, we need to focus on promoting healthy alternatives that are MORE enticing. And we need to model and teach a value system that does not place risk/excitement/pleasure above stability/consistency/self-sacrifice.
(Not that risk, excitement and pleasure are bad. Just less important)

I've met people who are addicted to drugs who know that they are hurting themselves and they don't know why they feel such a strong need for the drugs. Listening to them talk, I can tell that they aren't kidding when they say it gets to the point where they just have to do it. I feel that for them the need is just like when you feel the need to cough. You can hold if off for a short time but pretty soon, you just have to give in and cough, that is until whatever is causing it goes away. So the question is, WHY, why do they have this need for drugs? There may be different reasons in different people, but unless you can somehow eliminate the cause, most of the time will not be able to eliminate the addiction. Personally, I believe in administering the drugs to these people who can't help themselves in a supervised way so that you eliminate the self-destruction and the need to turn to crime.

Most people take drugs for one reason to another, it relieves stress in most persons. If they can find another healthy way to remove stress from their lives instead of the use of drugs, the number of persons taking drugs might be reduced.
You can try taken them to a rehab center but that will not work if they don't want to get help. At these centers, they prey with them, give them advice and keep them away from any drugs as much as possible. But if they're forced into the rehab center then they won't take fully take part, so its almost pointless.
The first step to keeping someone from wanting a drug, is making sure they fully understand what the drugs can do to them and their family.

I personally don't believe that people want to do drugs. They are suffering from an emotional/psychologial issue that forces them to find help by whatever means necessary. We can be supportive and keep the doors of communication open for them and discuss alternative ways of handling their problem. What we need to remember is that these peole are suffering. So laying off the criticism is important. And last but certainly not least, we can pray for them.

i grew up with a mom on drugs.she was addicted to crack.nothing in this world can change a person that's addicted but themselves.most people that have an addiction also have an emotional story to go along with it.they are trying to erase the hurt and troubles in their lives.they are not trying to be a burden on you even when they say they'll stop and don't.i truely believe the only way a person can beat an addiction is through god.he puts something in their path that wakes them up and they kick their habit.for my mom it was seeing herself die in a dream.she says god spoke to her and told her if she continued on her path what would happen.it wasn't us kids ,or people trying to talk her out of using,it wasn't her appearance,it wasn't a rehab,it was truely her wanting to quit.people having an addiction can't help themselves no more than we can help getting a drink of water when we're thristy.we should never turn our backs on them and always show unconditional love.love gives them the doorway to come home.

they need lots of encouragement. you can never encourage them too much.
i had a family member who was addicted to drugs. i let her know how much faith i had in her. yes she backslid several times, but i never gave up on her.
if you just write someone off, they have no reason to quit.
we should all pray for those with addiction because it is a huge problem. my family member has been clean now for several months and i couldn't be more happy for her. she has gotten a job, an apartment and a vehicle. she has told me on numerous occasions that i was her inspiration because i never gave up on her.
now that shes clean I've shown her pictures of what she looked like when she was using. she is mortified. she says she did not see herself like that at all. that's the scary part. never give up hope!!

To see of what it can do to them. What it does to their family. If you can not get through to a drug addict you have to tell them I am never going to see you & talk to you again not until you get off those drugs.Kick that person out of your house. It is call tough love. You have to think that every single person is on their own spiritual path to God & there are people that have to learn the hard way.Sometimes you have to let them do that.

I wouldn't call pot a drug, its no more than a saint johns wart. Alcohol and cigarettes are worse for you. I don't know why pot is illegal. As for other drugs, fix peoples' emotional problems and they won't feel the need for these drugs. For those who do them for fun, find some activity that is just as fun.
