Can I take the degree from Vandy far and wide nationally and abroad? Will it open up a lot of doors in whatever I choose to do?

So Rice over Vandy? I thought they were on the same level. Tied for second best in the south.

Vanderbilt is a highly regarded university. It is about the same as Rice and Emory. Cornell is a little more prestigious and Stanford is a lot more prestigious.

US News ranks it at 18 -- tied with Emory and right behind Rice. Cornell comes in at #12 and Stanford as #4.

A degree from Vanderbilt will open doors for you. Along with Emory, it is the third or fourth best university in the South (behind Duke and Rice).

You'll have a lot of doors, but not the same doors as a degree from stanford or another ivy league.

Vandy is a fine institution, but also recognize that it's one of hundreds of fine institutions.

That being said, I'll say what I always do: do your best there and you'll do well no matter what. The school will certainly give you what you need to move on afterwards and to do whatever you want.

It's not on par, reputation-wise, with Stanford or Cornell. But it's relatively on par with Rice and Syracuse. It's a known school, and has a good reputation in the US.

I don't know of its reputation abroad, but in general, schools in the US are well respected in most overseas countries.
