Usually I'm all against pointless American aggression and sabre rattling. But Iran could surely put a halt to all this nonsense but stopping its uranium enrichment program (which it is now expanding) and denouncing terrorism. It won't stop the Iranian president from talking nonsense, and it would probably lead to him being replaced, but at the end of the day he doesn't stand a chance against us. For the future of Iran, can that idiot step down so someone can take responsibility for his country, before the hawks bomb Tehran into tiny pieces?

Maybe if the news media report that the Iranian president is a threat, then the USA people won't think about how Iran is not a threat, and the corporate led political class will remain untouchable and do as their pockets require.
If USA helped Iran build nuclear power stations, then we'd all be friends.
USA has detonated nuclear bombs in anger, and the Iranians claim they want a nuclear electricity infrastructure. Who has a death wish?
What is the problem with Iran? Are they different from us because, er, the TV says so?
Israel do upset their neighbours, so some neighbours do draw attention to it. This is not an evil policy.
Unfortunately there is no forum for peacful debate in what has become an insanely aggressive American culture. We will do well to calm down a bit.

Yes they do, but it is not in the way you might think.
Mahmoud Ahmadinijad has promised that if he attains a nuclear weapon he will use such a weapon to destroy Israel. He knows that such an action will likely end in the destruction of Iran via an American nuclear strike, but he has a religious fervor which drives his plan. Ahmadinijad wants to bring forth a nuclear holocaust that he feels will return the 12th Imom who fell down a well 1000 years ago.
It doesn't take much to understand that Ahmadinijad wants to make Iran the first "Suicide country" just as Radical Islam has made their people into "suicide bombers" in the name of Jihad.
Liberalism, and the weakness it brings the world, has made Iran bold in it's attempt to achieve it's goals. I truly believe that much of the world would accept "wiping Israel off the map" in exchange for the false image of peace. I don't think Israel thinks that this is a good thing. In time Israel will be forced to act or be eradicated in the 2nd great Holocaust.

I would love to grant them their wish!

I suppose I am one of those whom you would derisively term a "hawk", Noam. But your query is not without merit. In this question, I can see you wavering in your liberal pacifist position, if even a little bit.

Oh sure, you might play it off as fear that "the hawks" would "bomb Tehran into pieces"...but deep inside you would support the military action to neutralize this growing threat. You are a human, after all. You have a family, and would not wish harm to come to them. Therefore, you begin to identify with us "hawks" and maybe...just maybe...you will grudgingly admit that we have point when we say that there is Evil in this world and it must be confronted.

YES, BIG TIME, they are commited to their mission of bringing back the 12th immam, and in order to do that they have to destroy Israel first, and they know America is going to step in and defend Israel, so doesn't it make sense that they will probably hit America first, The Iranian's are smart as they are evil, and they will have taken some sort of foothold in Hugo Chavez's neck of the woods by now, they could have an absolute field day firing at us from there. There is so much hatered for America within all these third world county's and they are all joining forces against America, so only time will tell who will make the move first and hit us while we are of guard and by then so much damage will be done that it will bring the planet to the brink of extinction, much quicker than global warming already is.

Possibly. But if anyone thinks that Iran will be a pushover is grieviously mistaken.

Iran possesses sophisticated air defence systems, state of the art stuff thanks to the chinese and the Russians, and a large well trained air force.

In the narrow confines of the Persian Gulf, our carriers become enormous targets for Exocet missiles, and don't even think about transiting the Straits of Hormuz under wartime conditions.

The Iranian president has his path chosen and plotted. If he can cause Israel to cease to exist I think he doesn't care one bit what happens after that. As long as he goes down in history as the guy who caused several million Israeli citizens to reach several hundred thousand degrees farenheit in a few seconds then I think he is happy. He is nothing more than proof of the fact that anyone who adheres as fervently to any religious doctrine as he does is eventually prone to irrational madness in the name of their "Gods"

They have a power-wish like many countries. Remember "bring it on?" Unfortunately all this egotistical showboating by the various parties has left everyone else holding the bag. Sad commentary on what occurs in our world.

I hear ya.
But its governments/nations fighting each other ya know.
Give them power and they'll abuse it.

Do you really expect the President of Iran to give in?

We could stop this too. But that takes integrity.
And diplomacy.

I think they see themselves as representing arabs all over the world and if they can goad the west into a war, then every arab nation would rise up against the west.

The president of Iran does not run the country. There is a guy called an Ayatollah that runs the country. Church and state are one in that country.
