It is an example of nature's course of selection due to competition or depletion. It is also a correlation to the balance of results due to the balance of availability.

As any species in a natural environment, either, place on the food chain, or are in competition for food on that food chain, when the balance of its natural predators, or its natural competitors increases, then it (the named specie) is either going to have to either relocate or it will be depleted.

I don't know if a bobcat or a coyote or a hawk is an actual predator of the fox, they are a natural competitor, though. The trapper is definitely a predator of the fox. When the two are combined the species that is the most affected, in this case your fox, must either relocate or suffer extinction.

This in turn affects the success rate of the trappers. If I have a bowl with 10 candy bars in it, Snickers and Milky Ways. 5 of each then you have a 50% chance of selecting one over the other. But, if at any given time the balance changes in the selection capability, then so also does the probability of selecting a specific one over the other. The greater the imbalance, so is the correlation of probability/improbability for a specific desired result.
