guinea pig is about 3 times bigger than a hamster. They are social that love to be with other guinea pigs. They are from south america
Hamsters are very small. They like to live alone (besides dwarf hamsters) They are from Africa and asia
Guinea pigs look like giant hamsters but are definately not. They have completely different personalities and care needs

Well, I have had both, and the only thing difference, other than size, that I have found, is that the Gunie Pig seems to be a little meaner than the hamster, but I got the Hamster when it was a baby, where as the Gunie Pig was full grown.

Guinea pig are larger, require more calcium, larger cage, and they are more vocal. Hamsters are much smaller and, in my opinion, much more likely to bite. I've been in the retail pet business for 4 years and NEVER been bit by a Guinea Pig. Hamsters will bite if scared or startled--even if they know you well. Hamsters are ok for older children (like 8 and up or so) but I never recommended them for younger children. Guinea pigs can be potty trained and are generally sweeter once they get to know you. Just my opinion, though. :)

hamsters are smaller and like to live on their own unless they are dwarf hamsters, they also have to live inside. Guinea pigs are larger, like to be handled and rarely bite. They are social animals and like to have company and can live inside or outside.
