Quite often at night I feel the need to go to the loo - even when I haven't drunk anything since a few hours - but I usually don't get up, I sleep on my stomach and find if I roll onto my side I can keep on sleeping untill I feel it again, turn again and sleep again. I don't get up till the morning when it can't be held much longer and the cramps get too bad.
I was just wondering if this is unhealthy and if I should really be getting up?

Hi Elle Dee,

i think a lot of people do this...my friend and I discussed it once and found it funny how we all seem to do the same thing. When you wake up tired and need to go to the toilet, many of us do what we can to ignore it and go back to sleep.. and yes have the morning cramps to put up with because our bladder is about to explode (just kidding). I don't think it's anything to worry about, of course it could lead to problem in the future so i guess it's not the healthy option but don't worry as you are not alone!

Try to stop having the urge in the first place rather than holding in which can cause bladder strain and later problems. or by going which wen ur tried, u basically cant be bothered lol

so find a way to stop needing the toilet during the night. even if havent drunk much try going to the toilet a few times during the evening before and immediatly before bed. this should stop the urges at night so ur not sleeping on a half full bladder inicially.
good luck x

The most common thing to cause having to pee in the middle of the night is Diabetes. Next up is either pregnancy or alcohol consumption.

Most people are able to sleep throught the night without having to get up to go to the bathroom. If you have the urge to pee more than once a night, go see a doc ASAP and have them check you sugars.

It may just be an incontinence issues, or weak bladder, but better safe than sorry.

your bladder warns you that i is getting full when about half full, so it is safe if you only have a slight urge. however the longer you leave it and the stronger the urge gets the more likely you are to suffer from bladder infections which can in turn cause kidney problems. If you wake up with a srong urge to go it is best to go, even if you are tired.

I never get up to use the bathroom. I usually never need to in the first place, but if I do for some reason, I just ignore it and the urge goes away. Then I will take care of it in the morning.

Enduring the urge to go to loo is bad for health. Many taxi and bus drivers developed urinal problems because they need to hold back their urge while driving.

Sometimes we have to hold our water because of the inconvenience of not having a bathroom in the area, but If there is a bathroom, you should go. Why put unnecessary strain on your bladder muscles? It will make you cramp and it may weaken your bladder muscles.

Hi - you should really go as stale wee in your bladder COULD cause a bladder infection / cystitis which is horribly painful! I reckon a quick trip to the loo is preferable to...well, something painful! :O) xx

DONT WORRY ABOUT IT!

it may be because you drank too much water before bed and do not need the toilet before going to bed!!

It happens to me all the time, I cant understand how it never happens to my partner.. he will sleep like a log!
