When her water breaks, call her doctor and he will more than likely advise you to driver her to the hospital or call in ambulance if you don't drive and if she can't drive herself. Good luck!

You should call her doctor if her water breaks, and also be sure and note the following:

1) How much water was there: was it a gush or a trickle?
2) What color was it? Clear? Greenish or brown? Red?
3) Is she having contractions? If so, how far apart are they?

You should also call the doctor if she's having contractions that have been 5 minutes apart or less for at least a continuous hour - even if her water has not broken yet.

And another note: if her water breaks and it's bright red, call the doctor, but take her to the ER. That could be something very serious. The greenish color if her water breaks means the baby's had a bowel movement in utero and will need to have special attention taken to make sure she or he doesn't ingest any of the "icky" fluid.

If the water breaks and is clear, and/or her contractions are 5 min or less apart for a continuous hour, call her doctor, and take her to the hospital. You don't necessarily have to take her to the ER, just to the main entrance of the women/children's section of the hospital and let them know that she's in active labor.

Good luck!

I had a state-of-the-artwork 1st being pregnant and became in well being center for the finest 3 months of it, at the same time as in there I made associates with a woman who's waters broke at about the same time as your sisters. She managed to carry the toddler to 30 wks, he had to pass to huge look after a lengthy time period yet became high-quality and is now a strapping 14 365 days previous! The fluid around the toddler is continually being replaced and so the toddler can live to inform the tale yet i'm shocked that they did not keep your sister in well being center. There also are 2 a lot of waters the front and hind and reckoning on which have ruptured dictates the prospect of dropping the toddler. i extremely wish your sister and the toddler are ok. It's not like in the movies, where water breaks and baby pops out...although that CAN happen but very unlikely! She will probably feel contractions sporadically BEFORE the water breaks so you know that she's "in labor". You call the dr/go to the hospital when either her contractions are 5 min apart OR her water breaks. If her contractions are sporadic or like 15, 10, 20 min apart, then she labors at home until they are closer together. But she needs to call the dr at this point anyway to get some direction. Like I said, if her water actually breaks, then it's time to go to the hospital. Good luck!

You have time once her water breaks if she isn't having contractions five minutes apart then you need to hurry and get her to the hospital. If her water breaks only then you have time to get her to the hospital. It isn't going to be right away that the baby is going to come. My water broke at 1:00 in the afternoon and I went to the doctor at 6:30 that night and didn't have my son until 2:34 the next day in the afternoon. Just be calm and take your time. It will be fine and once it comes you will know what to do.

Well usually after the water breaks it will be hours, even days before the baby comes so don't panic. just call the doctor because after it breaks the risk of infection is increased. Even if there is an emergency it'll be okay my husband delivered his neice when he was 11 because his sister started giving birth in the middle of the night, and he was the only one there when his other neice was born so he is very used to seeing women give birth and everyone involved including the babies did fine.

Well just relax all the hard stuff is on her!! Make sure her bag is ready and even put it in the car along with the baby seat. Then wait, if and when the time comes call the hospital tell them you're coming in with her so they'll have a room ready them drive her to the hospital and let her do the rest. Good luck!!

YOU don't do anything. SHE needs to make the call to her OB, yes SHE not you, the OB can tell so much by the sound of her voice. S/he may want her directly to teh hospital but sometimes they will say wait a while. Her water probably won't even break-most women's don't until labor is well progressed.
Relax, just be there to support her in whatever way she needs or wants. The rest of the job is hers!
Congrats, Auntie :)

well when her water breaks call the doctor right away or even call the hospital where she will be having the baby and tell them that her water broke and how far along the contrations are and do excatly what they tell you to do. make sure that she has her bag packed and sitting by the door and just to be on the safe side always make sure your car is filled with gas and that you now the route to the hospital and if needed to be you might need to now another route to the hospital just in case of emergency and make sure you have cash and cell phones ready.

Her water might not even break she could just go into labor my water never broke until i was acutally in labor and already at the hospital. But she'd need to contact her OB and time the contractions when they gt to be about 5 min apart. it's a good time to start heading to the hospital!
