My monitor (flat screen old school CRT) starts literally popping and the image shrank to nothing in the center of the screen.
The popping would also occurr when the computer itself was off and the monitor was cold, as well.
Now nothing displays.
Any thoughts, friends? I'd be much obidged. Thanks.

Conventional CRTs are like conventional TV picture tubes and have a high voltage power supply in them to light up the screen. It sounds like your high voltage supply burned out. If so, it's probably not worth fixing since new CRT displays are so cheap nowadays.

Sounds like the monitor is toast. The "popping" noises were probably sparks when the boards or electronics in the monitor shorted out. I suppose it could be repaired, but it would be a lot cheaper to just buy a new one.

Your high voltage section has failed! Best thing to do now is invest in a LCD monitor. Not only will it save space,it will save a ton of energy and thereby help slow pollution. ;-)=

well your monitor sounds shot. the best thing you can do is to take it into a computer shop, but they are more than likely going to tell you to get a new one. if you have a warranty on it, use that. good luck!

1. If it is only the start button then restart the system. 2. If ti is the entire task bar, lower your mouse there, right click on the mouse, Proprties --> (check if the Auto hide task bar is checked.)

I think you were very clever to type so accurately while your screen was blank.

Maybe its your vision.
