Partly by the origin of some of the words themselves. When men are aggressive, they tend to be referred to as "go-getters," etc. When it's a woman, she tends to be referred to as a "b***h." Not only is it a double standard, it means a female animal, and there isn't any male equivalent. Even some nasty names that can be used for men can be derogatory toward women, like a "son of a b***h or a "m*****r-f*****r." I know these sound awful, and I can't believe I'm typing them, but they do cause us to think less of women.
