My husband and I recycle everything and each week we have more recycables than trash, I wish more people would do this. It takes the same amount of time to throw something into a recycling bin as it does to throw it in the trash.

Many people do not feel it is worth it. Some folks don't have enough room to have a recycle bin and a trash can. Others just don't really care. When more children are raised to know how important it is, it will become second-nature to them as adults.

We try to recycle nearly everything, but it isn't always easy to do (we have to drive our stuff to the recycle bins several miles away).

I agree. Here, we recycle everything and also have a big green bin on wheels that goes to the curb when it's full for the compostable materials and a kitchen bucket with a snap lid to dump into it. I've spoken to many people that simply can't be bothered to recycle and some that live in apartment buildings that management doesn't practise it. Once the system was set up, I found it takes less time to deal with waste, and some weeks, have no garbage for the landfill. Yahoo also has recycling groups for the communities around us where we can give away/receive/swap/sell/buy cheap, things that still have good use and would otherwise end up in the waste system. One of them is: Hamilton-StoneyCreekRecycle

It would be lovely if we all could. Where I live there is no curbside recycling and the local recycling center doesn't take everything, this is a peeve of mine for sure.

I wish the grocery stores still had a box to recycle those plastic bags, I can't stand those things but not everyone offers paper bags which I prefer since I actually end up using those for arts and crafts for the kids or myself.

I would like to but there are no facilities nearby that allow for recycling. The only one I have is paper recycling due to a company called Abitibi. They have bins all over town to recycle all kinds of paper. The only places that take plastic (bags) in town is Randall's and WalMart. No one takes the hard plastic or glass. When I was in CA it was much easier to recycle. Out here in TX not so...

Scooter, I wish I knew which state you reside because here in Up State NY. we are required to sort and recycle. *We recycle soda (pop) and bear cans, pop and bear bottles in grocery stores and redemption centers for .005 cents a can or bottle. There is one disterbing issue! Wine bottles go to the garbage in clear bags.

You're right it takes no more time to sort than be sloppy. I figure those types of people also leave their carts scattered in parking lots.

We've always washed with soap rinsed bottles and cans and recycled paper and magazines and cardboard boxes in the large blue plastic recyclable bin.

Either they are lazy or just don't care...our city service provides recycling at the curb and it is inexpensive, so a lot of people around here recycle because it is too easy...like you, we have more recycle than "trash", at least at our house, but we strongly believe in "reduce, reuse, recycle" and we also compost...
