France's role in World War ll is very clear. At the Minsk Accord they sat at the table with the Nazis and told them that it's ok if they invade Hungary and Czecoslavakia and that they didn't care if the Nazis murdered 6 million Jews. France told Germany that as long they left them alone, they would turn a blind eye. In the end, after the Nazis murdered 6 million Jews and occupied half of Europe, they went after France. The Nazis actually took over all of France without firing a shot. England was the only western Allie in Europe that was openly opposing the Nazis. Today, England is the only country in Europe fighting Arab Terrorism and France is the only country in Europe that is openly embracing them. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Germany, Japan and Italy were Axis powers while the United States, Russia and Britain were Allies.

France was an Allied nation. However, they were quickly conquered in 1940, so didn't play much of role as a nation. After the Germans took over, they divided the country into two parts, the south part was theoretically still independent, but the Vichy government was basically a puppet government and did what ever the Germans wanted. Later, the Germans abandoned the pretense and just took control directly.
The French leaders in exile, mostly military leaders, were not a very unified lot. In fact there was much infighting to determine who would lead France after the war. Kind of sad really, but many of the French leaders were just looking out for them selves, or refused to openly support the Allied cause until they knew they'd win.
There was one French armored division that I know of deployed during the liberation of France, but there record was not spectacular.
So, basically, they were on the side lines officially, because they were occupied by the enemy.

1. Britain , USSR and the US were allies and Germany, Japan, and Italy were the Axis powers.
2. France was considered neutralized in a sense after Germany had defeated them in June 1940. There was 2 splinter groups at the time . one was callled the Free France under Charles de Gaulle who resided in England to run the government there. There was also the Vichy French under General Petain, a WWI hero turned traitor to a degree.

France was one of the Allies up until their defeat and surrender after four weeks of fighting. Their vaunted Maginot Line was a false security blanket. After 1940, they ceased to be a world power but came under the sway of the Germans as the "Vichy" French. The resistance fighters continued their fight along side the allies, either behind the lines or in England as part of the Normandy Invasion.

France was quickly defeated and the official government of France searched an agreement with Hitler. France did not enter in war near Hitler but fulfilled requirements of Germany. Besides a small part of french people tried to resist and begin a guerrilla.
Some persons have flown to England with de Gaulle and tried to continue the war.
I am French and not especially proud of this period;
But I say this to Anglo-Saxons saying That French were cowards,That France lost 120000 men in the war between France and Germany. The truth is that the soldiers were betrayed by their chiefs

France was an Allied Nation,until they were defeated in 1940 by the Germans. Part of France was called Vichy France and was a German puppet state, until the Germans decided to just occupy all of France.

In the beginning, France was an Allied power, but, after it was conquered in 1941 or so, the Germans created a puppet government called Vincy France, based in the town of Vincy. Some Vincy fighters fought against the Allied invasion of North Africa. After the Normandy invasion the French joined the Allied side but you don't read much about them in the history books.

Look again. All your information is wrong and France's part in WW2 is a big enough deal that you wont have any problem finding it once you bother to look.
