A vet may be able to get an idea by palpating her abdomen, but it would only be a rough idea. Please do NOT do this yourself - dangerous for the cat and the kittens!
The best way to tell is by getting a vet to do an ultrasound, like we have. Not cheap, but the best way! X-raying is a bit old fashioned, and it's not really ideal to be exposing unborn kittens to x-radiation. Ultrasound also allows a moving picture to be taken - kittens can be missed on xray.
If you can't afford an ultrasound, take her to the vet anyway, they might be able to give you an idea, and you should really have a pregnant cat checked anyway if you haven't already. It's a good idea to know how many kittens there are so that you know when the cat has finished labour, otherwise there might still be one stuck in there without you knowing. Please get kitty spayed after she's had her kittens!

We had a female cat wander up to our home a few years ago and she has been with us ever since. She got pregnant by a himalayan and had 5 kittens. I could feel them in her tummy when she got far enough a long. I would count their heads them every day and most days I counted five. So, I think if they are positioned right and you cound them everyday that you can tell how many there are in her tummy.
Whoever, said that we shouldn't be letting our cats have kittens unless they are pure breed. I agree and disagree with that. First off, we let our cat have babies because we wanted to extend the family. We kept 2 of the kittens and the other 3 went to families. So, it wasn't like we didn't have a place for them. After, that set of kittens we got them all fixed. In my opinion it is irresponsible to let your cat keep having kittens over and over and then having to try to find homes for them and not knowing if someone is going to be good to them.
I have someone in my family that I don't think needs any animals because of several things 1. she treats her animals like toys, she thinks she has to have a new one ever so ofter and then the old ones get put outside or gave away or just neglected. 2. She can barely feed her family and so the cats do not get fed right 3. She says she doesn't have the money to get them fixed or get their shots.
If you can't feed them like the should be fed, afford to get them fixed and get their shots then you don't need a pet. Pets should be treated like a member of the family.
Also, please make sure that you are not feeding your animals recalled pet food and if you really love them, don't feed them any with wheat gluten in it.

I say that she will have about 3-8 kittens. you could take to the vet and have an alter sound to see how many exactly. it also depends how many litters she has had in the past or if it is her first litter to know how many she is going to have

If you really have to know and have the money, you can get the cat x-rayed at the vet. Then they count the heads so this is pretty accurate.

do you have homes lined up for these kittens??
I dont think that your cat should be pregnant.. unless you are a breeder and have a breeders license.. she should be spayed and not allowed to roam the streets.. . thats why there are so many homeless cats around... in the area that i live in it is the law to have an unspayed or neutered cat in your house.. and you are fined if found out about there is also a law about letting them roam.. but for the health of your cat it is probably best to get her spayed.. every heat cycle increases her risk of different kinds of health problems.. like mammry gland cancer.. etc.. please. there are enough homeless unwanted cats around.. get your cat spayed.....

If you feel her stomach right around her nipples you can feel and count them. My cat had about 4 litters and I was right everytime. Just be gentle, don't push too hard.

Your kitty would need to have a CAT scan... j/k, of course...
Have an X-ray done by your veterenarian...but even this is not fool-proof.
