stupid (& i Never use that word) but it's tacky, but nothing else kills my diabetic/smoker breath

If it's painfully obvious they're chewing gum, then I have a couple guesses.
1. Trying to cover the smell of alcohol (doesn't work)
2. Quitting smoking (that's good!)
3. High stress levels (like watching high-strung coaches at games)

depends how discreetly he's doing it. if it is a discreet chew, i think 'he cares what his breath smells like'. this is a good thing. if he chews the same piece of gum for hours with his mouth open i think 'disgusting slob'. this is not a good thing.
