Bring your cat into the house. I know a friend whose cats are allowed out during the day, but they bring them in at night so that the cats won't get attacked or eaten by some other wild animals.

Whoever said to kill the other cat, I hope you get shot or poisoned. That is cruel and inhumane. I would talk to the owners, if the cat has any owners. If not, then call animal control or catch the cat and take it to animal control. If you can't do that then keep your cat in the house. Is your cat fixed? If not then if it's a female the other cat could be trying to breed with it and if it's a male then they could be fighting over a female. If you really want to help matters get both of the cats fixed. Problem should be solved. It doesn't matter if the other cat isn't yours, you'd be doing both cats a great favor and helping to make sure they don't get overpopulated.

Never use poisons - they're meant to kill in a very cruel way.

First and foremost, make sure you neuter your cat! It's very natural for unneutered male cats to fight. They will go around impregnating ferral cats in heat and possible bring back a wide variety of diseases not to mention fleas.

Keep your cat inside and make sure your cat is spayed or neutered! You need to be a responsible pet owner.

Contact your area animal control so that they can provide a humane trap for the cat. Put a really tasty food in the trap like tuna to lure it in. Animal control will then pick up the cat and take it to the animal control shelter. If the cat has any identification, it will be reunited with the owner after paying a fine - along with the request to neuter the cat.

If the pet owner is not identified, it will be put up for adoption and hopefully find a home with someone who cares enough to keep it inside where it won't pick up diseases and fleas.

You need to make sure that your cat isn't going to the other cat's house and luring it over! Maybe your cat is doing the same thing to other cats. Are you just as guilty?

I agree with cupids_d completely.

One thing I would like to add that no one else brought up.....
There are no bad cats, only bad and neglectful owners even if this cat presently doesn't have an owner and is homeless it is not the cats fault. Some thoughtless person dumped the cat there, or didn't have their cat spayed and this cat may be the result of a feral cat having multiple litters. If you have neighbors that own this cat, talk to them, see if you can reach a mutual agreement to solve the problem.
Once again I repeat, NOT THE FAULT OF THE CAT!
Keep your cat indoors at night and if you haven't had him or her fixed this would be a good time.

Get a kids spray gun and shoot it with it. Add a tiny bit of vinager to the water and I guarantee the cat will not want to come back. May take a time or two put worth a try.

The best solution would be to keep your cat indoors.

It's also very effective, if you go out and shoo the other cat.

When it realizes you look after your cat, it will be more cautious about coming into your garden and may stop altogether.

These are your options:

+ install a security light (motion sensitive one)
+ spray the other cat with water when it turns up, or shoo it away - it could get the message
+ does the cat have an owner? if not, see if you can catch it with a cat trap and get it to a shelter

Good luck!

Well, bring your cat inside. Or if the other cat is like attacking yours, tell the owners and maybe they can do something.

Putting down poison is not the solution because your cat could eat it and, in any case, poisoning is immensely cruel. My I ask those who recommended it - try eating it youself.

Ask your local vet or animal shelter if you can borrow a (humane) trap. Catch the bugger and have it neutered. Spayed animals are less territorial.
