Well, whichever life I live, if I knew that the other life could exist (and I probably will in the first case and definitely will in the second case) I would be living a life that I would know that it isn't ideal or final. The life of happiness would be meaningless to me eventually and the life of meaning will become a bit of irony.
Talk about life... I tell ya. It is interesting. I am doing the second part right now, with an extreme focus - quit my job, left the country i was in for years, now somewhere in a quite corner, in a small apartment, I am passing time answering questions in yahoo, and figuring my life out.

I think the idea of a life of meaning here is flawed. I, personally, try to find meaning in the world and in life. This is a task which makes me very happy. The more I learn, the more I understand, the happier I become.
I search for enlightenment because it makes me happy.
Searching for meaning doesn't mean you have to dwell on the future or past. You are free to live in the present and find meaning in everything you are doing--or better yet--to create meaning through artistic expression, even through the mere act of being.
The search for meaning in life can bring happiness. Blind faith, and wanton neglect of ones self in the present cannot bring true happiness.

A life of meaning is when you look at your past and try to create a better future.
This one for me

There are two types of lives that you can live ... a life of happiness and a life of meaning ... & you can never have both. << Wanna bet? Meaning is not limited to creating a "better" future, and working towards a better future does not exclude being happy.

The fact that I am free to make my own choices and decisions in life, is very important to me. I see my personal freedom as a gift and believe that free will is a marvellous thing when used positively. However, I don't always use my freedom responsibly. I'm human! And I suppose, all of us at times, fail to consider other people's needs in our decision making. On the other side of the coin, we also experience occasions when we choose not to act as we would like, because it would affect those closest to us negatively. It can be a tough gift to use.

You are wrong about this my friend.
A person CAN have BOTH IF they love Christ and try their best to please Him. All the other will fall into place if you are like this. I am 100 % Disabled, BUT I thank God for my Disability as I can witness for Him in YA everyday of what life I have left on this Earth.

We loss everything when we die. Therefore, I think that a life with happiness is more important than a life with meaning. However if both comes together it is the greatest thing of life.

Personally, I think it is absolutely wrong. To have a life of meaning IS to have a life of happiness. They go together.
A life of only static "happiness"...not recalling any past experience....not planning any future...not contributing to the betterment of something in some way...is nothing better than a potted houseplant. This is happiness?

I have seen many longing to find peace, truth, love, happiness, etc and i too wanted something permanent.
I have had many times always cried to God cause there was no hope in crying to others. And to my amazement I received answers and thought it was co-incidence..
But it was not all, my whole life started changing when I seeked God to make me a better person. I came to believe that what jesus said in bible is true. And so I asked God for Holy Spirit which Jesus had said that He will give those who ask Him, who will help us daily. So I asked and I received. I can feel God's presence when I pray. and I know God will answer anybody who will call Him.
Please mail me if u feel u would like to know more.. not only from me, but u can know lot from websites also... but than to learn , ask God to teach you...

I don't agree, actually. A life of happiness, for me, is a life of meaning. Happiness is the meaning.
