Dell E521 using vista Basic with 1GB DDR2 Ram. Everything set to optimize for performance rather than quality. All non essential programs turned off. Is there a setting I can tweak to speed up connecting with IE7. Will Fire fox connect faster. Vista is a performance PIG.

None of the answers were even close. I found the solution in the User account control settings. By turning this off in User accounts in the control panel IE7 is now Huming. This enables IE7 to run as administrator which was not happening despite the fact I was logged on as administrator.
Just one of the many Vista bugs that render that O/S ineffective.
All answers provided here were totally ineffective.

maybe you need an update to fix a bug where Internet Explorer 7 becomes very slow this is due to the way the Phishing Filter checks the content of web pages or try to run it without add-ons and disable the Phishing Filter to see if it helps

You might have to clear your temp, history, and cookie files. It's a bulky program and runs slow by nature. You might consider a different version of IE or Firefox if you are looking for speed.

Firefox screams compared to IE 7.

Humming has 2 Ms , you should use spell check, and I think your a racist.

you would need to edit the regestry and i can't say for sure it's doable in vista..
