I like to use the free programs offered by PDF 995: http://www.pdf995.com/

When you have a file you want to put into a PDF, all you need to do is go to print the file in whatever program and choose PDF 995's virtual printer as your printer-- it's not really printing the file, but saving it into a PDF file.

Their free versions of the software are fully functional, the only catch is that while it is saving the dialogue that they use asking you to 'continue with the free version' or something like that also shows an ad.

I've done it all - from creating PostScript files and running them through Acrobat Distiller to using the toolbar in Word.

Try this - go get a free- no registration, no emails, no spam piece of software called Primo PDF.

Install it - it's very easy to do.

Start any program you want after installing Primo PDF.
Open any file.

Select File to Print.

Choose 'Primo PDF" from the list of printers.

It will make your file a PDF, just like that. Absolutely free and totally easy.

It's great.

Let me know if you need any more help.

To create a pdf from a MS Word or other file types, you will need to have utility that does this conversion. Commercially available tool is Adobe Acrobat creator.

There are many freewares that does this conversion for you, but they add some advertisements or water marks telling that 'This PDF was created using xxx'

One of the tools I would recommend is an open source utility called as PDF Creator. It does not add any unwanted stuff to your files. It is available from Sourceforge.net

http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

Well,I only know one software. Microsoft Office can convert your documents into pdf. files. However, that feature does not come built-in with Office. There's a add-on for it. It's called "2007 Microsoft Office Add-in: Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS ". This download allows you to export and save to the PDF and XPS formats in eight 2007 Microsoft Office programs. It also allows you to send as e-mail attachment in the PDF and XPS formats in a subset of these programs.
To do this, you need Genuine Microsoft Office 2007. You can download it at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4d951911-3e7e-4ae6-b059-a2e79ed87041&DisplayLang=en . That's all I know.

Without knowing the current filetype, it's hard to give a specific answer.

Assuming it's a M$-Word document, do a Google / Yahoo search for: convert Word to PDF.

If not, Word, please clarify.
