Epistemology at this hour of the day-
Excellent!

I never found the Romans 1 passage convincing of itself even when I was a Christian, though I had to accept it was true, if I was taking the bible to be true and inerrant.

I don't think it is possible to be logically certain.
Subjective religious experience is convincing to the individual, but it has led people into different faiths so it can't be reliable, however powerful it is.

Historical research? Archaeology and analysis of the bible and other texts? You'll find volumes of divided opinion there, too.

Certainty appears principally to come with Kierkegaard's existential "leap of faith".
Something personal which is not really accessible to the outside observer.

No one knows if Jesus and God is real, but that is the whole point in religion to have faith. Believeing isn't always seeing.

You can feel them down in your Soul and Spirit.

Romans 8:16 - The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God. 20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, 21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them.
For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
