okay perhaps you two should each have a time out and not talk religion to each other instead.

Make him read the Bible with you, starting at the Genesis one and be sure you are ready to ask him to explain the inconsistencies.
Do not let them quote mine unless they are willing to take the complete reference the quote is clipped from and explain that.
Draw attention to how God changes from a manlike Skydaddy in Genesis to an invisible Holy Ghost by the End of the old testament.
If they try to skip or dismiss the old testament point out that it is the foundation that Christianity rests on, and if it is not valid then neither is Christianity.

http://www.sullivan-county.com/identity/intol_right.htm

The Christian right are intolerant of free thinkers. They feel they have little or nothing to learn from perspectives other than their own. They wish to raise their children in "closed" sometimes "Anglo only" environments, exposing them as little as possible to the "corrupting" influences of the outside world. Indeed, by isolating their children this way, they pass on their intolerance to their progeny. Music and art to the Christian right must conform to their biblical beliefs. For example, lyrics or art labeled "pornographic," films and/or books that accept, not necessarily promote, homosexuality as an alternative life style are condemned as corrupting influences on youth. The Christian right, almost gratuitously makes homosexuality a rallying point, a way to raise "true believers" in thoughtless, easy condemnation. They readily claim that the country is run by homosexuals and blame them for numerous social ills. To many of the Christian right, AIDS represents God's punishment of homosexuals.

THEIR HATRED ONLY MEANS that they do not understand the true meanings of the bible that they are so fond of quoting and that THEIR attitude can only mean one thing. THAT according to their religion, their behaviour and hatred condemns them and that THEY WILL GO TO THE HELL THAT THEY WISH ON EVERYONE ELSE.

I don't think I could stay friends with someone who was constantly pestering me about my religion, or lack thereof.

Tell him to read Man and His Gods. Really, nothing will probably help though. It's been my experience that most Christians don't want to hear anything that might cast any doubt on their beliefs.

Don't. It makes you as bad as them. Just tell him to knock it off because you're not interested. If he wants to stay friends, then he will quit it.

Edit: If its family, then why are you so scared of telling him to butt the heck out? Tell him to go away and you don't want to hear it anymore. And say it in no uncertain terms so that he can't miss your meaning. He's family. You can do alot more with family than with friends.

Tell him you out grew fairy tales long ago, and leave it at that.

Carl Sagan once said: "You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe."

I think you should just tell him to respect your beliefs. Its better to realize that he will not change you, and you will not change him. Ask him how he would like it if you kept bugging him, etc. I do not think there is a reason to try and "convert" him, just work it out civilly.

Be the bigger man and leave him alone. Don't let him shove his crap down your throat and don't try to de-convert him. Just be friends and forget your differences if they are going to cause you problems.

That's not a good idea. Would you want your mate to try and convert you to his religion? no, you wouldn't...so leave him alone!

Why don't you just let him believe? It's not hurting you any. Just let him know you don't want to discuss it anymore and leave it at that.
