I need to make a special treat for my boyfriend, but he gets really sick from sugar (and even worse, sugar substitutes like Splenda or Sweet & Low, etc). He can have a little bit of sugar in small amounts, ie. 1/2 a teaspoon in tea since he's not diabetic, but it does NOT go down well!

I have banana bread in mind (ie. adding extra extra ripe bananas) but that doesn't seem special enough. I've also ordered him a diabetic fresh fruit cream cake which was a hit, but it's been done.

Any ideas? (recipes would be GREAT)

sorry perhaps i should've elaborated.. fruits are okay.. it's the processed sugar that makes him sick.. we've no idea what the 'condition' is, but sugar definitely is bad news for him!

Go to your local health food store and buy some PURE SUGAR CANE.
It isn't like the sugar you would normally buy. My son has the same problem.
It isn't as sweet at normal sugar but it works well with fruit that have natural sugars.
my sons favorite dish is

Cut Strawberries
1/8 cup sugar cane
Put in fridge and let set a few hours

then put over anything or eat alone.
You can use biscuits, ice cream, and yogurt.

Enjoy.

Frozen blueberries (freezer section at store) with milk on them. The milk freezes and gets kind of slushy because of the blueberries and then it is kind of like blueberry icecream... mmmm! The blueberries add their own natural sweetness.

what about honey?

if he's okay with honey, you can try to sweeten regular recipes with honey, as that is not a processed, refined sugar and it'll add sweetness.
