A window broke while I was at work and I'm told my cats got out. Well while escaping, one got a really nasty cut on one of her paw pads. Its like someone took a knife and sliced off some layers of the pad. It looks really nasty. It's obvious it was bleeding, may still be but she is licking it a lot. She's limping and obviously in a lot of pain....any advise? Is there any ointment I can put on it that won't make her sick if she licks it? Should I bandage it? Should I take her to the 24-hour emergency vet?? Please help it looks bad!

You want to make sure that the area is very clean, all debris removed from it. If you choose to use ointment, only use Neosporin and as stated, wipe off after about 5-10 minutes (hold the cat the whole time to ensure she does not lick it off) then wrap with a secure wrapping. Make sure she cannot get the wrap off because using the litterbox can induce bad bacterias to the wound. In the morning call your vet because pad injuries can be hard to heal since they walk on them. They may want to see her to be safe. Good luck!

An emergency trip isn't needed. As stated, clean the area well. I would recommend not putting any ointment on the cut as you will never be able to get it all off and most ointments are "for external use only" and will include the "if swallowed, induce vomitting and call the poison hotline" statement.
Heat up some Camamil tea, let it cool to room temperature, soak a wash cloth in it, and use that to clean your kitty's paw. This tea is great for cleaning cuts and fighting infections (can be used on the eyes, ears, and any other 'opening' of a pet to clean and fight infections).
You will want to get the cat to the vet tomorrow. She will likely get an infection from using the litter box if you don't take her. She will get shots, a good cleaning with saline solution, and possibly some stitches and a sock to wear for a couple of days. But she will be fine :-)

OK. First clean the injured paw with ordinary soap and warm water. Then smear some antibiotic ointment on it. Keep the cat from lickin the ointment off for at least 5 mins then wipe the ointment off with tissue. That's all you can do tonight. But tomorrowm take the cat to the vet becuase such a nasty cut will need antibiotics. Its on the paw and will surely get infected. It is not a life-threatening injury so it can wait to be properly treated at the vet's tomorrow. About pain - don't worry. The paw obviously stings and the cat will favor it for a few days, but it will heal.
Do NOT give any kind of pain medication. Kitty will be OK.
Poor kitty.

You've already answered your own question - yes you should take her to the emergency vet. Especially if it looks nasty!
The thing with lacerations is, the faster you get them stitched up the better. If you leave it until tomorrow, there is more likely to be infection starting to set in, and then it won't be able to be stitched up at all and will have to heal by second intention - much trickier!
Also, I don't know your cat, but they tend to be much less inclined than dogs to let you fiddle with their wounds! I wouldn't advise putting ANY ointments on it - the cat will most likely lick it off, and animals shouldn't lick their own wounds, contrary to popular belief - that's a one-way ticket to infection city, cats and dogs have a lot of bacteria in their mouths.
Emergency vets please - always better safe than sorry, and the sooner you get it sorted the less it'll cost you in the long run.

wrap the laceration and add pressure, if the wound continues to bleed out then yes take her to a vet, she may need stiches
