Nope they don't, some of them are pony-tailed, others are shaven which are pretty nice have you seen America's Next Top Model a lot of Black girls have nice short hair cuts, others are braided and very cute like Alisha Keys ^^,

African american hair is course and thick.. and when your young (girls) most parents want their kids to have "good hair" so they perm it and chemically incline it at young age which harms it more than does it good so by the time they hit teens it's hard to grow the hair out... so they get braids.. or weaves to look..... pretty to say the least.. it's all in wanting long hair.. if you notice it's easier for the African male to grow his hair than most females.. because they don't have their hair permed and stuff.. and if they do it' started at a later age.......... sukx but true.. only other reason would be that is what they prefer ya'knoe...

Personally, I like the afro, but yes, a lot of girls around here get weaves. It is probably much easier to take care of, and it is a popular style here (Denver). Your town might be different... look around and see what the other girls are doing, then put your own style to it.
