According to the non-biblical Nicene Creed, which most of Christianity accepts as doctrine, God the Father and Jesus Christ are one and the same. Yet in John 7:17, Jesus states, "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." This suggests that there is a choice of the doctrine coming from God the Father or Jesus, but if the non-biblical Nicene Creed is to be accepted they are both one and the same and therefore there is no choice, which suggests that Jesus was deceiving the Jews by implying that there was a choice. Would Jesus deceive anyone or is it the non-biblical Nicene Creed that is doing the deceiving?

No, according to the Nicene Creed, they are not the same; they are two distinct "persons," but Jesus said "He that has seen me has seen the Father," John 14:9. In John 7:17, there is the distinction between the physical person and the Spirit that is God, but other verses show that Jesus is both God and man. As a man, he hungered, prayed, and died, but as God, he raised himself from the dead. His doctrine was not a doctrine of a man, but the doctrine of God.

I will believe Jesus above any man made writings . However, the bible in fact does say that Jesus and the Father are one..on the other hand it says that Jesus is God also....It is a matter of understanding and reading every Bible text about this.

Isaiah 9: 6 has more names for Jesus.

Verses saying Jesus is God:

Heb. 1:8
God the Father called the Son "God."
Isa. 9:6
The "child" is called the "Mighty God."
Mt. 1:23,

Is. 7:14
Jesus is called Immanuel, which means "God with us."
John. 1:1
Jesus (the "Word") is called "God."
1 Tim. 3:16
Paul said Jesus was God "manifested in the flesh."
Col. 2:8.9
Paul said Jesus was the "fullness of the Godhead bodily.
John. 20:28
Thomas said to Jesus, "…my God."
Titus 2:13
Paul called Jesus "the great God."
Phil. 2:5,6
Paul said Jesus didn’t feel it was wrong to be considered "equal with God."
John 5:18
The Jews wanted to kill Jesus because He was "making Himself equal with God."
John 10:30
Jesus said, "I and the Father are one."
Gen. 1:1;

Col. 1:16
The Bible said God created all things and that Jesus created all things.
Mic. 5:2
The messiah (Jesus) had always been in existence.
Isa. 44:6; Rev. 1:2,8, 11,13
God claimed to be the "First and the Last." So did Jesus. God clearly states that He is the only savior. The Bible also says Jesus is our savior.

Verses saying the Father is God:

John. 8:41 "The only Father we have is God Himself."
Eph. 4:6 " … one God and Father of all …"

Supertop had a super answer! And no, Jesus is not the deceiver, that is satan, you know the father of lies. God/Jesus is love and love does not deceive. If anyone thinks there are contradictions in the Word of God, then let it be known that it is not a contradiction, but ignorance of the Word that is causing the problem in question. Get a study Bible. This may help clarify some things. God bless.

You merely misunderstood the meaning in John 7:17;

what he mean is if anybody or if any man intend to do what God is doing or what was inside God, he will come to know that the teachings came f rom God or it was He (jesus) who is speaking of himself.(God)

The teachings of Jesus came from the will of God because He was anointed by God. A man that speak of himself is for his own welfare and good, but a man who is speaking on the teachings of God who anointed him, speak of the truth.

Is telling the truth, a deceiving manner as you have said?Jesus was telling the truth that his teachings came from God, who anointed him.

Your belief is very wonderful b ecause you believe on a plain non-biblical Nicene Creed which you said accepted by most christian people but you do not believe the words of God in the bible.

Please read the bible continuously to serv e as your reference in connection with religion and spirituality. yet your reference in believing God.

My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. Jesus is saying that if a man will do God's will know that the doctrine is from God. There is no convict or deception.

John 7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

I thought we were talking about Jesus, not about add doctrine.

If you want to know if Jesus would deceive anyone, you have four accounts. As for your quote, you need to quote it in context starting with John 7:16 and ending with John 7:18:

16Jesus answered, "My teaching is not my own. It comes from him who sent me. 17If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. 18He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.

Answer: Would Jesus deceive anyone? Not that we know from the Gospels.

NO.....

Who are deceived are those, who, in their own faith, refuse to believe any message other than the one they have.....

If that is a lie, then deception is on their part.......

Only one with an open mind will learn the difference and weigh the truth with what their heart seeks to know.....

No Jesus was saying when you look to God you will know the truth. where it was from God or him alone I am clear he is God read again
he will know whether iit be og God, or whether I speak of myself. any who know him know it is of God.

this is not a contradiction
apparently if you do the will of god
you will know that the doctrine of which he speaks
is from god, not from a selfish point of view
