For me the best thing is to get rid of anything stimulating: bright light, noise, smells. If that doesn't work in about 20-30 minutes I will try massaging it away. Try googling "pressure points headache" to get a bunch of sites.
Here is a good one as an example: http://taichi.snowseed.com/shiatsu_headache.htm
The one that often works best for me is just to rub my tounge on the roof of my mouth (I do this all the time at university when, you know, I can't remove the annoying stimulus-- aka professor, fellow students, etc.)
But taking a nap also works well.
My philosophy is avoid the pain meds! Take only as a last resort and only if nothing else is working and pain is to the point where you can't tollerate it or drown it out by sleeping.
And to prevent headaches? For me what has worked best has been giving up caffine, harder to wake up in the morning, but definelty fewer headaches during the day.
*Edit* Forgot to say another quickie fix is to pinch the webbing between your thumb and forfinger (untill pain goes away- or, I usually give up after two minutes). This doesn't always work, but sometimes it will do the trick.

Depends on the type of headache for me. Caffeine can help. If you haven't eaten in awhile that can cause a headache. Massaging your head or having someone else do it can take it right away. Orrr my favorite, a bag of frozen veggies from the freezer on top of my head for at least 15 mins lol it always works on my nasty headaches. A nap could help, or you could wake up with one even worse.

A neck & shoulder massage can do wonders to lessen a headache. Naps can help too. To soothe place a damp washcloth over your forehead, lie back and put your feet up. While you are at it sip on a big drink of water, tea or cola. A little sugar or caffine can be helpful toward pain.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck.
Headaches can be caused by minor problems
like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more serious reasons
like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can
have harmful side effects, so it is better to
modify your lifestyle. More information available at

yes. it all depends what causes the headache...
in my case...
i take a spoon and scrap my head (in the same direction as combing my hair) starting at the sides of my head (above the ears) then over the top... and finally at the back (left & right of the neck)
after that the head feel warm...
and after a while my headache is gone...
or rather.. i do this when i feel a headache is coming...
after doing this, the headache will subside before it strikes.

yeah, if your not already napping, there are other ways to relive your headache, one way is by rubbing your temples, or the base of your neck, applying pressure slightly, depending where it hurts, and another way is sex,ha ha, I know the old saying"not tonight I've got a headache" but it does work, anything or way to relive tension or stress.
