The F model was a Proposed single-seat fighter based on the F-15E airframe incoporating the F-15E's new engines, a new AN/APG-70 synthetic aperture radar, , and cockpit displays, Saudi Arabia originally ordered 24 of these plus 48 two-seat combat-capable trainer models. In the end this version was not built.

And the honest truth is: you are WRONG about the MiG-25. The concensus among experts who examined the MiG-25 flown by Belenko to Japan is that the MiG-25 was vastly overestimated by the West. It may do Mach 3, but only at high-altitude and in straight lines. It is an high-altitude interceptor designed to shoot down long-range bombers using long-range missiles, sort of mobile missile platform. In a dogfight it is nearly useless. Sure it's EMP resistant... it's built on VACUUM TUBE TECHNOLOGY! The MiG-31, its successor, is not. Enough said.

But this is turning into a chat, so back to F-15F... Proposed upgrade to F-15C (single-seater), with new radar, new engine, glass cockpit avionics, and possibly some of the upgrades introduced in various test planes, perhaps steerable exhaust nozzles and canards, to further improve its manueverability, conformal FAST pack like the Strike Eagle for extended range, and such. Now that F-22 has entered service and F-35 may do so soon, F-15F is likely dead or only exist as an upgrade possibility.

Krazy, u didn't explain about the F-15F. It was a propsoed 1 seat fighter version of the F-15E. Saudi Arabia ordered 24 and 48 trainers, but it was cancelled. krazy, that was a great answer. I did a report on the F-15 , but yours was much better written. By the way, the F-14 is at least as good as the eagle in all respects if not better. It was the only plane to "gun" down an F-111 at low level. lt was the only plane equiped with the AIM-52C, making it the best interceptor in the world. the AWG-9 (later APG-71) could detect targets farther away then the Eagle good. It was more manuverable then any plane around, with only the F-16N betting it in agility. (not manuverablility) It can detect then raptor from far away with its TV vision camera and IRST sensors. It can fly as slow as 70 knots and fly faster then the eagle. It can turn tighter, though not regain energy as quickly. al this is down even though the F-14 weighs more then the lbs. of thrust the engine gives. (5,000 lbs. difference) wonder how the eagle would perfrom under that circumstance! this and more make the F-14 the best combination of interceptor/fighter/long range strike platfrom. The F-15 must be given its due, but lets not forget the longest serving front-line military plane in history of the US.

The F-15F is a single seated F-15 with all the "ground attack equipment" stripped out of it. It will be made to be just an air to air fighter. The primary buyer is Saudia Arabia. The reason for the degrated F-15E is George Bush's reluctance to give Saudia Arabia such duel use aircraft which of course could fall into competing hands such as Russia and China.

Well Kyle... since krazy mi....cut and pasted the entire world's knowledge regarding the F-15 one can find in a book I guess I'm limited to telling you a thing or two NOT in the cut and paste of link filled answers. Guess that I'll limited it to mentioning what I learned first hand.

When I was serving as a young Lieutenant in the army I met a young air force Captain who was an instructor or the F-15 Eagle. Over time we became good friends and he asked if would like to take a flight in an F-15B...the 2 seat training model.

Without going in to how we obtained the flight approval my friend and I took a very short but very fast flight. What I can tell you about this fighter.....

....the thrill of making a full military power take off rivals sex, hands down and
....doing barrel rolls and loops is extremely exciting and at first nerve racking.
