What's the point? If he is a fundie he will be just as freaked out if you tell him you are an agnostic or an atheist or a Unitarian. When I was a kid my favorite uncle was a fundamentalist Christian. I know he loved me and I loved him but by the time I was in high school we couldn't talk about religion at all. He thought I had lost my faith and I thought I had outgrown him intellectually. Two people with those points of view really can't communicate. Pretending to be a Satanist will accomplish nothing good. You will only offend real Satanists and as I said before it won't freak out your uncle any more than any other form of not agreeing with his beliefs. I would recommend attempting one serious talk with him about what you really believe or don't believe and then suggest that you and he agree to disagree. He will probably keep after you as much as you let him and he will contiue to annoy you. But at least one of you will have acted like an adult.

Well, I have told people before that I was a Satanist (this is years ago) but I actually was one at the time. Trust me, you don't have to go so far as to tell them that you "worship Satan" or resort to speaking in non-existent languages. Fundies will freak out just at the mere mention of 'Satanist' and draw their own conclusions.

Now, to be honest because you are not actually a Satanist and you aren't just saying this to some random JW's who's knocking at your door but to a family member who you will have continued contact with, I would advise against it. No, you are bad at all. It's a normal reaction I think to want to shock someone that is trying to convert you in hopes they will drop the subject, I have done in when I was your age. But it often back fires, it'll be your luck you tell him you're a Satanist and you will never hear the end of it.

As odd as it sounds, my fundies actually are more horrified thinking I am either a Atheist or a Heathen than they were when I was a Satanist (I was a Atheistic Satanist mind you.)

Man - If there is no heaven or eternity, have at it. If there is a ten percent chance of an afterlife, would it not be better to err on the side of caution. This is sort of obleque but there are a lot of people in New Orleans that now believe in mother nature who did not before. Those that did believe were saved from misery and death. Convert yourself and tell your uncle not to bludgeon u with his version of faith. Be your own Man. - Flash

The fact that I am free to make my own choices and decisions in life, is very important to me. I see my personal freedom as a gift and believe that free will is a marvellous thing when used positively. However, I don't always use my freedom responsibly. I'm human! And I suppose, all of us at times, fail to consider other people's needs in our decision making. On the other side of the coin, we also experience occasions when we choose not to act as we would like, because it would affect those closest to us negatively. It can be a tough gift to use.

Go for it! I told my uncle that I'm a Satanist and he got really uncomfortable and told me I shouldn't mention Satan anymore. What's the use of having family if you can't mess with them once in a while?

You're not a bad kid. It's normal to have SOME kind of a reaction when a zealot starts frothing at the mouth about his faith...lol...

Actually, that might bring on more preaching. Christians are extremists (some of them), he might organize a few of his friends, hold you down, and try to perform an exorcism. LOL, it is a good idea though, and I've thought about it many times.

better say you worship Satan first or he might think that you are speaking in tongues from God!

Wow, D, you obviously don't know anything about the "Satanic" community don't you?

You don't believe in God i suspect, and this is good. You have learned not to blindly accept all that foolishness. You should prepare yourself for discussing with your uncle all of the ways that religion and his belief is flawed and most likely untrue, and to try to convert him instead.

I don't know...I think maybe you should atleast try to listen to what your uncle says, and if it really bugs you, just ask him *kindly* to stop. I don't think you should try that satanic stuff....it sounds kind of rude and you want to respect your uncle.
