Difference is that in the south part of our country the aging philosophy known as "Old School", was taught to the children and practiced by the family unit. In essence, society norms were practiced in an effort to teach children the rights and wrongs of actions and how to treat others. That is where the saying, "Treat others like you would like to be treated", came from. In addition, respect is part of the teaching. The respect of that philosophy is this, "All women will be respected regardless, the respect also will be for your elders (meaning those people older and wiser than you), and respect for others homes and business (simply to abide by the rules that govern where you are at the time.) Girls were always, as I remember, treated with the utmost respect and they appreciated being put on the pedestal, so to speak. It is a very nice feeling to be respected and that works hand in hand with being polite, another quickly disappearing mannerism in our society. Please, thank you, may I, and statements of compliment were taught as valueable came later to be known as magic words. There is nothing magic about being nice to people. It is a good feeling when someone is nice to you and wants to be around you because you have manners, you are polite and that makes you pleasant to be around. The military took that a step farther to respect the position or rank if not the man behind it. Today I believe all of these qualities to be still important and always will be to me. Positions of authority may not always make the best decisions but that position enables that person to make a judgement or decision that controls your work or private life. In those cases I was taught to respect the position even if the person in it was all fubar. I enjoyed treating women with respect when it was appreciated. When it is not or not understood then it is useless words. The philosophy applied to men and women and the reciprocal was taught to girls. The society that it formed was a very pleasant place to be and there were very seldom any misunderstandings in the dialog or mannerisms as taught they were practiced and applied.

i would have to say women i have met from the south sure have a charm about them.. so i guess if u r use to girls treating u with respect a man will do the same in return... up north so many of the women accept being fat an not taking care of themselves so they act like that gives them a right to be grumpy ? an i guess what they say what goes around comes around.. but we all end up losing in the long run. society doesnt seem to know the meaning of respect now adays maybe the south just hasnt become ghettofied enough.... thank god..

Well not all people are. I'm from wisconsin and I don't treat girls like dirt. I treat them with respect. I just think its more less of a stereotype than anything. I mean I would never mistreat a women, its just the way i was raised. So to say that the people are nicer down there, really isnt the case.

people in the south actually teach their kids right from wrong, they teach them how to treat a woman, and if they catch them being disrespectful they dont have a problem takin em out behind the wood shed and givin em a lickin with a switch.....but some in the north are the same way, just fewer of them....im not in the north and im not in the south but i fit the southern description (at least i think i do)

because in the south we actually have morals and standards unlike the majority of the rest of the country. and we know what really matters...like treating people with the respect they deserve, and putting others needs before our own. the reason for this behavoir is because most of us were raised right by parents who also have morals and standards......something that most pple are lacking

Hmmm . . . I'm from Louisiana, and I'm not quite sure I know what you're talking about. Then again, I think I might. I know a couple of guys who are pretty naive when it comes to women. Good night!

It's not about where you are from. I think the way you treat people comes from home and sometimes your surroundings.

Maybe more family oriented, not as busy and crazy there, more time to think about how a lady should be treated.
