Adultery would be restricted to a marriage while fornication would be any other, i believe including marriage too. as in all adultery is fornication but not all fornication is adultery.

There's a gray area where those two are somehow related.
Strictly speaking, FORNICATION is sex between two unmarried partners or two partners who are not married to each other. ADULTERY is the act of sex between a married person and someone who is not his/her legal spouse.

Technically, the act of two single people having sex (premarital sex) is called fornication. Also, fornication may also pertain to extramarital sex, as the two partners are not married to each other. Adultery, on the other hand, is defined strictly on the premise that one or both partners are married but not to each other.

Fornication is having sex with someone to whom you are not married (whether you are married to someone else or single). Adultery is sex with someone other than your spouse. As such, adultery is fornication, but fornication is not necessarily adultery.

I have always thought of adultery as someone in a marriage cheating on their spouse, and fornication as someone single having sex before marriage.

According to Merriam-Webster, fornication is consensual sexual intercourse between two unmarried people. Adultery is voluntary sex between a married person and someone else, either a married or unmarried person.

end. Both acts will have great sin and God does not allowed it...So sexual intercourse should be made between a spouse only with a formal marriage..
