I'm in college and am kinda lazy, so I'm wondering if it would be safe to eat the shell of a hard-boiled egg along with the rest of the hard-boiled egg, or if the only safe way to ingest the shell would be to smash it into powder.

Basically, can I just eat the whole thing? or do I absolutly need to shell it for safety concerns?

Other than the potential trauma that sharp, jagged eggshells might pose to the digestive tract, they otherwise pose no toxic threat. Some people with the eating disorder compulsively consume odd forms of non-nutritional substances and occasionally this includes eggshells. It certainly isn’t wise to eat
eggs shells but the fact remains that they are not poisonous.

one thank you to eat a no longer common boiled egg with out cracking the shell is to disolve it in vinegar! The acetic acid interior the vinegar is able to disolving the calcium interior the egg shells, and after a good soak (30-40 8 hours) the shell could have been disolved. honest warning, however, you will choose a very pickled egg!

Well, my birds eat the shell and all of hard boiled eggs, but you're taking a risk of lacerating your mouth or throat with the shell if it isn't pulverized! It does contain calcium, but there are safer ways of getting your calcium. Just smash and roll the egg on the counter, run it under cold water to strip off the shell, and enjoy.

My first response to your question is "PICA ". It is a weird type of fetish-l eating of non food items. It generally goes away after a month.
Here is a list of food that may be consumed, and in other web sites, egg shells was also listed.

Pica

Persons with pica most frequently crave and consume non-food items such as dirt, clay, paint chips, plaster, chalk, cornstarch, laundry starch, baking soda, coffee grounds, cigarette ashes, burnt match heads, cigarette butts, and rust. Glue, hair, buttons, paper, sand, toothpaste, soap, oyster shells, and broken crockery also have been cited in pica cases.

AFter reading the list ( this was the grossest list by the way) I concluded that the eggshells were tame in comparison..
