Hi,

I am a druidess/ceremonial magician neophyte, I celebrate Easter, with eggs etc, however I eat what ever I want because I don't believe the christian ways. I personally think of Easter as a time for quality family time.

I also wouldn't deny my children of having eggs or participating in school Easter things etc. There is no need to exclude children from activities - they can make their own decision when they are older but for now they should be able to have fun.

Cheers Zora

I can only speak as a Wiccan (not all Pagans are Wiccans by a long shot), but Wiccans do not generally celebrate Easter (which is in fact a Christian holy day) in a religious sense. However, a lot of the Wiccans I know DO celebrate it as Chocolate Egg Day. :-)

There is a Wiccan holiday which is celebrated close to Easter: Ostara, the spring equinox. A quick Google search will turn up lots of Ostara-related material, including stuff you can do with your kids (yes, including things to do with "Easter" eggs).

Easter is a pagan holiday, actually. It is actually called Ostara (depending on tradition) and is dedicated to Eostre.

The bunnies and eggs are fertility symbols. It is also the New Year for some pagan traditions.

I never knew what tie a giant bunny had to Jesus Christ. I believe Easter is a pagan holiday.

actually, i bypass to disagree with everybody here. collectively as esbats and sabbats are considered the "important" celebrations to outsiders, and to dabblers, and to a pair Wiccans who're neither, the main severe Wiccan celebrations are CELEBRATIONS OF existence TRANSITIONS: Births, deaths, initiations, handfastings. those solemnities are much extra significant than the agrarian holiday journeys. via the way, in classic Wicca, the names of the Christian dinner occasion days, like Candlemas, are not used....and midsummer does not fall on the 1st day of summer season. Wicca is English, fairly, and those days are noted as "February Eve, would Eve, August Eve, November Eve, summer season/wintry climate Solstice, Spring/Autumn Equinox."

a new year is born, the eggs are a symbol of fertility--which path do you follow, because the eggs and rabbit mean different things to different traditions
