I have been the sickling in my family for a long time and I never seem to be healthy. I am always coughing. not just a little cough but a deep lung rattling cough. I go to the doctors and they say it is just an uper respatory infection, or broncitis. I would like to have one day with out coughing. Does anyone out there relate to this and how do you cope with it?

You should contact the lung association. They can give you tons of ideas, resources, and information. Here's their website:

Good luck!

My mom has a similar problem. She was finally diagnosed with chronic bronchitis.

Have you been checked for allergies? The stuff in your lungs is coming from somewhere. Could also be athsma.

Also, you need to see a dr. but use a different approach. You want to walk in and say "Doc, I've had this cough for the last four or five years, and it won't go away. I need to know what's wrong, so we can finally get rid of it permanently"

Good Luck

I think I have some good news- & some bad news for you. The BAD news is; you're the sickly "type"- & it's just going to be one thing after another for you until you FINALLY pull out of it. The GOOD news is; people like you tend to live VERY long & famous lives (only to finally end up dying of something ridiculous- like getting hit by a meteorite at 109!). Sorry I can't be more helpfull. But life has to run its course. Hang in there- & good luck with that cough. :)

You didn't mention if you smoked or not. If you do then that is your whole problem because my mother has the same problem and it is from smoking. If you don't smoke then you need to go to a new doctor because you shouldn't have a cough all the time and you need to find out the root of the problem.
