I am really interested in becoming a flight attendant. I love flying, have traveled internationally all my life, and I speak Farsi along with English. If I do become a F/A though, I don't want it as a full time job. I would only want to do flights from Seattle to Amsterdam and then from Amsterdam to Iran and back, prefurably with Northwest Airlines and Iran Air. Do you guys think that it is possible for me to only work those flights? I often see a sign when I do travel saying that they need someone to volunteer for our flight so maybe that means I would have a chance. I don't want/need a full time job; I would like to do that route maybe four times a year-it is a four day travel in air plus layovers all together with the time difference. Do you think I might not have a chance because I know exactly what I want to do? Or do I have some chance because I speak Farsi, have great social skills and patience, which you need to be a F/A?

While it is possible to work as a FA part time, I highly doubt you will find an airline that will accomodate your schedule. Most FAs work 10-20 days a month. The scheduling process is quiet complicated.

All airlines work on seniority, with the most sr. FAs getting the best schedules and international flights. After 10 years with as regional airline you could have high seniority, however, with a large carrier you could still be quite junior. The first year or so FAs work reserve which is similar to being on call. They don't have much control over their schedule and can be called for a flight at any time.

I agree that you probably could get a job as a part time fa, but you would probably not be able to get those routes on a regular basis for many years. Senority is what it's all about. We have flight attendants at my airline that are still on reserve after 4 years here. The senior ones get all of the best trips and that is their right. They have put in the time so they deserve it.
