Hi There,

Im 30 years old, I have been having gaut attack since i was 25. It has been 5 years now. i will get my gaut attack on and off. like 3 months ones. Ever since i had gaut, i stop eating foods which has high purine, yet i will get the attack..

Late, i had hip pain, when im sitting down i don't feel the pain. But when i get up to walk, i will have the pain, i can't stand, can't move..i have to stand for 10mins and then start to walk.

When for x-ray on my hip and the doctor said that i got Avascular Necrosis. I have taken all kind of pain killers but nothing helps me from the pain...Until i took colchicine around 8 pills one day. and i had nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. the next day i can walk without pain.

So, i went back to the Doctor and explained to him, but he said that gaut won't attack hip joint.

Can someone help with this, can uric acid attack hip joint?

Thank you.

My father had gout and I helped him with his diet and medication, etc. His doctors mentioned the same thing...it is a server form of arthritis that primarily attacks the big toe. His doctor said that he gout never (never say never, right) affects joints above the knee.

The only medications I recall my dad took for gout were colochincine, allopurinol and or presdnisone. Sorry that's all I have on the subject. As I imagine you're doing...all I can suggest is that your keep working with your MD and pressing him to consider other reasons for your hip pain.

Not a doctor, but here's my opinion. Gout is a condition which mostly affects with the toes and foot. I googled CBS.com and Survivor.com. I found no reference to it's attacking the hip joint.
The specialty that deals with hip pain is Rheumatology. There are a lot of things that could cause the back pain, from a broken hip to Scoliosis, to Sciatica. A rheumotologist is better able to diagnosis this. I suggest you find one. It sounds like you are too young to experience degenerating of bones, but your rheumatoloist will probably order a bone density test.
