So many good explanations, but they can't seem to agree on one.
You could get more coherent explanations after raiding a meth lab........
- no officer, we were just playing cards.....
- no officer, we were just watching football.
My opinion: How dare Jesus count the sabbath. He was breaking a commandment. Dies on Friday ...... then Friday to Saturday. Saturday to Monday, and Monday to Tuesday.
Jesus obviously isn't a union man.

Jesus died on a Friday night because the Jews had to rush home to obey the Sabbath Law, which starts on Friday evening. So yes, according to simple math Jesus should have risen on a Monday.

Doesn't the bible say he was in the grave as Jonah was in the belly of the whale? (3 days & 3 nights) and arose at the start of the HIGH sabbath? Since he was in town for the Passover, his resurrection would have to have been on Saturday. The scriptures also mention it was still yet dark when the women came and found the tomb empty.

It's not in 3 days. It was "on the 3rd day". Counting Friday seems like cheating to us because he died only hours before sunset when Saturday started but apparently that was how they customarily counted at that time. It's similar to the Korean custom of counting a baby as one at birth

Jesus said He would rise on the third day not in 3 days. From the time of His arrest to the resurrection is the third day.

he actually died friday around 3:00 nissan 14 then sat was the sabbath the 15th,then sunday they found the tomb empty the 16th.
he was here on earth afterwards for up to 40 days so he ascended to heaven quite a few days later.
the gurantee he made it to heaven was at pentecost.

He had a dental appointment on monday, so he had to rush. Come on! get your facts straight. He died on Friday, "and on the third day he rose again".
Do the math. Friday was one. Saturday was two. So, Sunday was what? That's right. The third day. You know... the one where he rose again?

This version that you quote is from the Catholic perspective.
Biblically speaking Jesus was probably crucified late Wednesday night and died and was buried early Thursday morning. This makes much more sense.

I'm Greek Orthodox, and Jesus "died" on Thursday night. And rose Sunday at midnight.
So nope, makes perfect sense.

Again with the devil's advocate thing: I think it says "on the third day, he rose." So it didn't have to equal exactly 72 hours.
