When I quoted the Bible literally about celebrating pagan festivals I got the response "If you don't think about it that way, it's OK with God." Does this also mean it doesn't matter if we allow our children to blaspheme without punishment because they weren't actually thinking of poo when they said "sh**?

Sylvia - I meant that the eggs an bunnies serve as symbols of pagan holidays. . I do take the Bible literally, but the minor stuff (like wearing a blend of cotton and polyester) don't bothre me. Its heathen things that worry me for our souls. I apologise if I've offended you. I am glad you have to answer to God and not me too because only He has all the answers. God bless you. May the Lord find you and your family well today and always.

The Christian right are intolerant of free thinkers. They feel they have little or nothing to learn from perspectives other than their own. They wish to raise their children in "closed" sometimes "Anglo only" environments, exposing them as little as possible to the "corrupting" influences of the outside world. Indeed, by isolating their children this way, they pass on their intolerance to their progeny. Music and art to the Christian right must conform to their biblical beliefs. For example, lyrics or art labeled "pornographic," films and/or books that accept, not necessarily promote, homosexuality as an alternative life style are condemned as corrupting influences on youth. The Christian right, almost gratuitously makes homosexuality a rallying point, a way to raise "true believers" in thoughtless, easy condemnation. They readily claim that the country is run by homosexuals and blame them for numerous social ills. To many of the Christian right, AIDS represents God's punishment of homosexuals.
THEIR HATRED ONLY MEANS that they do not understand the true meanings of the bible that they are so fond of quoting and that THEIR attitude can only mean one thing. THAT according to their religion, their behaviour and hatred condemns them and that THEY WILL GO TO THE HELL THAT THEY WISH ON EVERYONE ELSE.

I think you are taking certain things too literally and other things not literally enough. Swearing is not comparable to chocolate bunnies.
collecting eggs is fun and not meant to be offensive. Swearing is offensive and meant to be so.
The bible says not to celebrate pagan festivals but when children are celebrating easter with eggs they are not celebrating a pagan festival. Perhaps were they living hundreds of years (thousands) ago, but not today.
Do you follow the entire bible literally. Do you ever wear clothing that is a mixed blend of cotton....you shouldn't be.
I am glad I have to answer to GOD and not you.
This does not lead in any way to the idea that the seven deadly sins (where would they be in the bible by the way) are ok if we don't talk about them....in comitting them we still have the intent and knowledge.
Lighten up...

Blasphemy is taking the Lord's name in vain, not saying sh!t. So don't punish your kids for blaspheming when they aren't.
You shouldn't cherry pick the bible, doing some prts that you want and not worrying about the others. If the bible is indeed the word of God you should follow it all or not. Don't pick and mix.

Old Testament has been fulfilled. Those people were looking to the cross B.C.
New Testament filled with hope!!! Christ died on the cross as the perfect sacrifice to save whosoever desires in their heart to recognize that they have sinned and ask for forgiveness, (completely redeemed for eternity). All sin is covered by His blood. We look back to the cross.
As far as paganism, it means anything that you worship, other than God. You can worship a house, a car, any worldly posession and that is paganism. You should like your posessions, not obsess over them.

Blaspheme=the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God ..how does the word you picked do that?
It's not a nice word..but it's not blasphemy either.
We celebrate the resurrection of Christ. If the world adds bunnies and candy...it matters little..We know fully what Easter means. And so do our Children.!

If you are really serious about taking the bible literally you should also stone homosexuals and non-virgin brides, never eat shellfish any more, don't blend textiles.
No excuses about which is more or less important, it is ALL in your precious frigging bible. See how far you get.

Jesus warned us that you would be here in the final days leading up to His Second Advent. And here you are. He told us that many antichrists would be mocking Him and His believers. And here you are.
Thank you for giving me extra strenght by your just being here.><>
