ok, first of all that doesn't sound fat. it doesn't sound skinny. it sounds like, probably average.

but let me tell you about being thirteen (although its probably pointless because, 13 year olds...want so badly to be older.) It doesn't matter if you're fat now or if you're skinny. you're in the really akward phase. you're just a hint of the sexy lady you will be in a few years. at thirteen, everything is just beginning to catch up with itself. being a strange weight or a strange height, you shouldn't worry about it. by 16 you will probably be a sexy lady.

besides. this is going to sound old lady of me but. when a woman wears a bikini, a man thinks about sex. perhaps you want men to think about sex when they see you. but don't you think you're a little young to have sex? I mean. ask anyone what they would do if they could go back in time. wear a one piece. noone will care. besides, guys know what you look like under your bathing suit. they have elaborate imaginations.

I'm 20 and weigh 140 5'3. If you are fat I am fat and I AM NOT FAT! Most guys like the extra weight on me but I know how you feel I just gain the "freshman" 15. Except it was more like 20 pounds. But to lose weight by summer I'd ask your parents to put you in some spring sport, and then eat healthier - fruits and veggies, but don't really worry too much about what you are eating as long as its not a LOT of junk food. But remember you are 13, and if there's an age to enjoy pizza and icecream at slumber parties its now. At 13 you shouldnt be hitting the gym or anything like that but signing up for a sport (tennis, basketball, softball, swimming) can be a fun way to stay active and get fit. Also remember you still are growing so you could spring 2 inches this summer. Other than that tell your parents you want to get in shape and maybe they will help you. Your doctor can even give you some points and let you know what a healthy weigh is for you. Good luck!

Actually, some people wouldn't consider that fat - if you're dressing right, people may not be just being "polite", they may be totally truthful in saying you honestly don't LOOK like you're overweight. But anyway - yeah, there's tons you can do to slim down before summer, so good for you for deciding to work out!
1. Set Realistic Goals — Enthusiasm often wanes when pounds don’t magically disappear overnight. You can not undo years (or months) of bad habits and achieve the body of your dreams in a few weeks

2. Look For Situations To Be active -Look for the hard way to do things — Park as far from the store as you can rather than looking for the closest parking spot, use the stairs rather than the elevator, if possible carry your bags out to your car instead of using the cart.

3. Always eat breakfast — Food fuels your metabolism — Studies show that those who skip the first meal, end up eating more total calories throughout the day and tend to make less healthy choices Skipping breakfast sends the message to your body that you're starving because you haven't had food for a while. As a protective mechanism, your metabolism will slow down.

4. Don’t starve yourself — Less than 1,200 is usually not enough to support your basal metabolism and thus will slow your body's calorie-burning ability – Very low calorie diets will, in the short term, help you lose weight but they’re extremely difficult to maintain. You’ll gradually become tired and irritable & lack the energy to exercise usually putting the end to your fitness program and leading to the beginning of a binge cycle.

5. Eat 5 — 6 small meals a day — Try to eat at least 3 meals a day. Optimally you should spread your calories throughout 5 -6 small meals per day. This will keep your metabolism roaring, your hunger in check and your blood sugar level even to help avoid binging.

6. Drink Plenty Of water – Drinking water helps keep you feeling full. Many times dehydration can mask itself as hunger so if you are feeling “snacky” try a glass of water before you eat. Water also helps keep the kidneys flushed which helps the liver metabolize fat at full force.

7. Follow the 90% to 10% rule. If you watch what you eat 90% of the time, the other 10% is not a problem

8. Eat your fruits & Veggies — Freshness Counts — The packaging and processing generally found in "convenience" foods generally reduce the nutrient values of foods and substantially raise the caloric content. The simple sugars found in processed foods generally leave people feeling hungry and craving carbohydrates — The American Dietetic Association recommends at least 3 — 5 fruit servings per day and 3 – 7 vegetable servings. Since fruits & vegetables are nutritionally dense and full of fiber eating plenty will keep your hunger satisfied and your body shrinking.

9. Just do it — The difference between the people strutting their stuff in the summer’s skin bearing fashions and those hiding their stuff is simply habits. There are the same amount of hours and stress in each week for every one of us — those who fit exercise and healthy eating into their lifestyles don't have more time or less stress, they just have healthier habits. The next time that you are unable to follow through on one of your weight loss goals — Identify the challenge and prepare a plan for the next time. Don't dwell on it or make excuses for why you can't do it.

Best of luck, hon!

It really works better to concentrate on getting healthy and feeling better. Start by finding some exercise you like to do, even if it's just a ten minute walk. Find a healthy food you really like and add it to your diet once a day. When you are comfortable with those changes, make another change. It's hard for a thirteen-year-old to hear, but it's a slow process, and trying to get results too fast is a sure way to fail. Make healthy lifestyles changes that you really enjoy and focus on the things about yourself you feel good about. I wish you very good luck.

Hi,

you are just over the good range for weight. If you lose about 10 pounds you are more in the middle .

You should be easy to loose that much weight by reducing some snacks and maybe cutting portion sizes at lunch and dinner. You only want to loose one or two pounds a week so that whatever eating pattern you do will maintain that weight .

let's see 5'4" & 140lbs. Does sound a hair on the heavy side but not much. If you want to lose weight and look good, stop playing with the computer and start exercising. Go to the Y (it's cheap) they usually have a great exercise room with all the goodies and plenty of people to help you.

Really? You are at the perfect weight for your height. But if you insist, go for a walk or join a sport at your school like softball, volleyball, cheerleading, etc. Join the YMCA and go for a swim. Have fun with it! Find something you like to do and go for it!

I would suggest becomming more active, playing sports, swimming, walking and watching your food portions....To answer your question about them jus being nice..it depends on your race...African Americans view being thick or having a lil extra weight as sexy and fine....any other race may see the extra weight as being fat...
