Is it possible to live isolated in the mountains and live off the land itself? The thing is though, how will I be able to keep myself in a healthy state like I am now? Will it drop?
Also, I'm worried about that will my life excpectancy drop to the point where I die at 65 or even 55?
I want to do it one day but I'm scared that the above is gonna happen.
Anyone have any advice?

your life expectancy in the wilderness will depend on your survival skills. just go somewhere like the Bob Marshall Wilderness area outside of Kalispell, Montana and stay a week. then tell me you want to live that way for ever. bet you don't.

well, you'd have to buy the land, because you're not supposed to be building on government land, and you'd need someplace to live. Isolation is not healthy for people, if you really dont' want to be around anyone else, there is probably a mental disorder going on (I"m EXTREMELY introverted, don't be thinking I'm judging you!!! We are a social species, there is a lot of evolutionary pressure in that department). There is too short a season to grow very many crops, so you'd be deficient in some vitamins, and you won't be growing any wheat-fur trappers used to trade for a lot of stuff. You can't hunt without a license, and there are seasons on everything now. It's mostly trout in the mountains, so I bet that is really restricted. You won't be able to access medical care, so if you get some medical problem or injury, you could die. In other words, in today's world, you can't really do that legally.

However, if you can save enough money, you can retire on some land in the mountains (that you bought) build a cabin, and grow some of your food and hunt and fish. You'd have to buy stuff, tho, and need a way to get to town so you're kinda stuck with getting a car or more likely a truck, because rural roads can be mudholes, and low-maintenance, if you go REALLY isolated. etc. etc. I live in a rural area in Minnesota and grow most of my own veggies and we deer hunt and fish a lot, so I know a little bit, you can also subscribe to Mother Earth magazine. They are online, too.

My advice would be to choose lower altitude mountains to live in if you are wanting to grow most of your own food.

When Living at 10,000 ft. we couldn't get any food other than a few small berries or rhubarb to grow outside, and the soil was too poor and rocky, we had frost or snowflakes at some time in every month of the year.

Certainly it can be done, that's how the Indians lived, and that is how people settled this vast country. Today we have become so dependant on food from the stores, that we, as a population, have lost many of those skills.

Spend a few months or years near a mountain town, and learn the ways of the older folks who do live much this way.

That's an interesting question. I don't know if your life expectancy would drop. but what would it madder. I mean how long do you want to live in the mountains? Would you want to be 70, 75 or 80. If you lived that long in the mountains you wouldn't be able to take care of yourself that much because your body will change and you won't be able to do things that you would normally do in your youth. And years of hard work could make your life shorter because living off the land would do alot on your body. You would have to hunt for your own food, you would have to make your own shelter, and you would need to make weapons to protect yourself from wild animals. So you could keep yourself healthy but you wouldn't I don't think you would live at least past 75.

I dont know how you would make a living but I think it would prolong your life. If you like the mountains, you will likely have a better life there. I knew a couple that had a cabin type bed and breakfast in the mountains and they were quite old and content. They were both healthy because they were always running their business, fixing the rooms up and cooking.
