If you have a reasonably sharp chef's knife, it will work (some people like to cut skin side first, others skin side last --once they're cut at least in half).

But otherwise any size of *serrated* knife is best for soft things like tomatoes... even a serrated steak knife will work fine.

I'd assume that a mandolin would have to be pretty sharp to cut ripe tomatoes well.

there is a thing sold by the pampered chef company that will slice ripe tomatoes, potatos and pretty much anything else that needs sliced. It is called the Cutting Edge: Ultimate Mandolin. look for it at www.pamperedchef.com and under their products that says cutting edge. hope this helps..

you have described a restaurant tool called a "tomato wizard."

it consists of a platform on which a tomato rests, an array of horizontally oriented parallel blades, and a pusher that drives the tomato against and through the blades.

it is often used in conjunction with a tomato shark, which is a small toothed utensil for removing the stem from a tomato.

visit your local restaurant equipment vendor and ask the sales associate to direct you to these items

I would try a restaurant supply store for a commercial size mandolin if you need massive amounts. If not, a regular mandolin with a super sharp blade would do the trick. And, believe it or not, a sharp serrated bread knife works extremely well too.

I use a wire hand held slicer for tomatoes, eggs, mushrooms etc., I've had for years. Take a look on ebay. Good luck.

Restaurants use the "the tomato wizard"... problem is they are very expensive unless you get one on ebay or something.

Use a mandolin... you can get one for about 25 dollars.

definite. I used to visual show unit it almost each and every 365 days, yet i ended many years in the past. Charlton Heston is now no longer a fave of mine, so I examine the authentic account contained in the Bible. King of Kings is an astonishing action picture. it really is more advantageous positive to verify the account contained in the Bible although. it really is the authentic tale.

You can use an egg slicer. The wires will work on tomatoes.

Yep, I use them at work, you can buy them through Russel if you live in Canada which you might need a friend who works at a restaurant to order it for you : )
