My 6 yr old son seems to have pains in his feet at night. He wakes up sometimes from the pains crying. We thought he was just having nightmares, but he wants his feet rubbed often. It seems to be more of his left foot than right. He claims it is all over his feet, tops and toes. We are afraid that the doctor wont do anything but say it is growing pains. He has wide feet with a low arch. Do you think it could be the quality of his shoes? What is a good shoe for this condition? New Balance? He says the pains feel like his feet are burning, and it is enough to make him cry. Other than that there are nothing wrong with his feet. Has anyone had this problem with their child before? It even occurs when he doesnt walk much on them.

yes this happens to my daughter who is also 6. its been happening for about 3 years. its almost nightly. we give her motroin, and put socks on her feet and that seems to help with the problem a little. you could try buying a custom foot arch support. the dr's are a lost with what could be causing this in her. the said growing pains at first, but sinve it has been going on so long, they are just lost, they told me to just keep her on motroin when she wakes up crying from the pain.

Honey, these are growing pains. It does hurt when a child's (especially boys, for some reason) feet and legs grow. Both of my nephews' feet and calves hurt them at night, and my sis would massage them with lotion and give them kid's tylenol. A warm footsoak is good, too. If you think it is his shoes, new balance with higher arches are good, or any quality shoe with high arches. One of my neph's has very high arches, the other is flat-footed, so I don't know if different shoes will help. Worth a try tho.

Ok...my son went through this. If it is infact the same thing, its actually athelets foot. Try a spray on type of athletes foot medicine. It will give him instant relief from the burning. Have him always wear clean dry socks and let his feet get plenty of air. Good luck!

Both my son (when age 8) and my husband have been fitted with custom orthotics (arch supports) for their shoes. It has made a huge difference for both of them. A podiatrist (foot Dr.) can help you.

it could be growing pains but he's a little young for that. take him to the doc to be sure there's nothing wrong but, could this be a way for him to get attention? i know it sounds wierd but stranger things have happened.
