With Easter just ending, I got to thinking. Remember all those old Hollywood Bible epics? Do you think that filmmakers should make a few or not?
I noticed that they are never made anymore. How come? Would it be profitable to make a big budget Biblical epic (i.e. Ben-Hur, Ten Commandments)?
I would like some smart, thought-out answers. No smart aleck ones, please.

To be honest they would waste alot of money making movies that only 5% of the nation would see. The reason why they made money off movies like that back then is because people just wanted to go to the drive-inn and do the nasty to a bible movie. Now a days you got movies like Grind House or Blades of Glory, even Shrek 3 getting more cash then something that would waste time and money to make and see. Sex sells, that's where the moneys at. Teens want to see blood, boobs, and car chases, not a Sunday class on a Friday night.....seriously

I'm only 20, and i really enjoy those old Biblical epic movies. It would be wonderful to see more made, but with the way it is today, i don't know how well it would "fly". So many religious movies have to be "ok'd" by the Pope before it can be released and such. And people are into alot of different movie genera's than they were back then. The movies that were made back in the '50's are so far different than today's movies. People "love" horror...not something from the Bible. *I'm not one, but I'm just saying what I've noticed, i'd love to see more Biblical movies, if done correctly, and not just made for the all mighty dollar*

No, I don't think Hollywood should start making those old Biblical epic movies because:
1. The current market/viewers for these types of films are too limited.
2. For Hollywood companies, a limited market also means limited income.
3. They've all been told before...what else is there to tell?

No, it won't happen. Hollywood is totally different than it was in the 50's, and no studio would gamble making a positive religious movie. The passion of Christ was financed by Mel Gibson's private funds. That's about as close to an epic religious movie in a positive light you'll see.
PS. Mel is off the A-list BECAUSE he made a positive.religious movie.

I was watching tv last night and saw that Ben Hur was on as well as some movie about giant crocodiles in Lake Placid. Of course I watched the more intersesting one about the giant crocodiles.
So since Hollywood wants to make money, they should continue to avoid the religious movies. Mel Gibson tried and he is now off the A-list.

i'm not a religious person but i do think some of the epic stories, if done right, would make for some unbelievable movies ( no pun intended). i disagree with ratm. like me i think alot of people would just be down to see a really good movie.

i love all of those old biblical epics and i think that if they start making new ones, or remake old ones, they'll just ruin them. hollywood isn't exactly religious friendly unfortunately.
