I have food poisoning, am running a fever, am extremely weak and exhausted, haven't been able to hold any food or liquids down today, and I already show signs of dehydration.

I think I am going to become hypokalemic pretty soon but I can't drink or eat any fruit without losing it. Any idea how to get me back at normal levels again?

"IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE?"

If my fever were high and would not come down with a fever reducer, I would go to the doctor because fever can be serious. If you are a minor, you need to let your parent or guardian know you are sick. Also, food poisoning can be very serious, depending on the source. For severe nausea I always mix a full glass of Coca Cola with a tablespoon of Hershey's Syrup. This is known as Coke Syrup and it tends to settle the stomach greatly. I would also take in plenty of sports drinks like Gatoraid but would sip it slowly, rather than chug it. I would make sure to sleep on my side so if I were to vomit, there would be less chance of choking in my sleep. I would then eat nothing but low-salt saltine crackers very slowly and would get plenty of rest. I would also pull on the outer edges of my belly button.....I know this sounds strange but I always find that it helps my stomach from hurting when sick. Well, these are just the things I would do, but you should really see a doctor. Get well soon!

Get to the doc asap. Dehydration can get serious very quickly. As for becoming hypokalemic do you feel weak and fatigued? What is your heart rate? Is it weak and irregular? If so go to the ER immediately. Hypokalemia can become a very serious condition that can cause heart dysfunction. It is NOT a genetic disorder but a quite common potassium imbalance. As for dehydration, pinch up a fold of skin- if it remains "tented" you have signs of dehydration. If this becomes a problem you may need IV fluids. Try sucking on ice chips for now, drinking H2O if you feel like you can stomache it and go to the hospital.

Sounds like a sever case of Hypochondria. Hypokalemic is a genetic disorder and not brought on by food poisoning. Stop reading medical journals when you have a stomach ache, they will convince you that something dire is wrong.
